Meteor tonight

Just seen an amazing meteor - at 10.42 - heading something like west west south and seemingly very low in the sky and at a shallow angle. Anyone else see it?
I was watching TV with curtains open and lights off and it appeared in the very side of my vision - seemed to light the sky, then split into two or three visible parts (flare like). It was so bright and low looking for a split second I thought it was a plane crashing. Not the recent Russian standard of course but the second most impressive I've ever seen,
