Guys,

I picked a can of this off the shelf from Halfords t'other week http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...
and I must say it's been very impressive indeed.

I don't know whether it's coincidence that everything i've used this on so far has come off, but I'm now starting to suspect that it might actually be the product. Amongst other things I've used it on corroded damper top mounts, and i've just used it to remove a broken fastener that was well corroded.

Thus far I'm very impressed.

(I haven't posted this in Technical as there are three seperate forums there, but mods if you feel this topic would be better there then please do move it).

+1 I can't recommend it highly enough.

I had a seized bolt on the clutch slave cylinder on my mx-5, I tried everything known to man for 2 weeks, mole grips, sockets, pliers, heating the bolts etc etc - sprayed that stuff on for 30 secs, hit the bolt a couple of times with a lump hammer, then the bolt came undone as if it hadn't been done up properly in the first place.

I always keep a can handy now, have since used it to release seized brake pistons and various other bits and pieces.

I couldn't get the caliper bolt off on the front NS brake of my MX5 and this stuff was recommended. My local branch didn't have any. May have to try again.

Yet to use it myself but I have a few bolts I could maybe shift with it, I'll have to try it out.

Bloody flies off our shelves, this stuff.

Good tip, thanks OP, will get a can to keep on the shelf (as these problems normally crop up on me at about 4.05pm on a Sunday afternoon...)

Thanks for the tip OP. I usually use a combination of PlusGas and a butane blowtorch mixed with arcane profanities, but I'll pick up a can of this Shock stuff next time I'm up at Halfords for a bike chain. It may mean the neighbours will allow their children to play outside when I'm fixing the car. hehe

Hmm, the link in my OP doesn't seem to be working for me, so Google Halfords Shock & Unlock Spray 400ml. smile

I very rarely round stuff these days as I always use six sided sockets smile

They had to be seriously corroded for them to round off. If they do beat the next size down onto it. If that wont work;

First http://www.amazon.co.uk/Irwin-Bolt-Grip-Remover-Ex...

If that fails http://www.toolsdiy.co.uk/shop/view/hand-tools/2pc...

If that fails (and it usually doesn't) then a chisel applied correctly can shock them loose.

If all else fails they get cut off biggrin

My year and a half so far of being a 'mechanic' has taught me that its all easy, you just have to know how to fix stuff when you break it biggrin

TBH it depends what you compair it against?
WD40 is ste as a release agent, heat followed by ATF does everything i need, even just ATF is better than WD40 otherwise i use GT85

I read on a machinist site a while back where they had rusted the same bolts the same way and did a test with the major brand penetrating fluids and kroil ended up being the best off the shelf product with liquid wrench close behind. But what they found better than all of them was a 50-50 mix of acetone and ATF.

Top stuff, used shock and unlock to get the exhaust nuts of my motorbike, was the only thing that would shift them.
