It’s just at the opening of the roof. If it’s open and i go to close it that’s all fine.
Google suggests that an official copy of VCDS/Vagcom diagnostic software will work on the Gallardo (possibly age/model dependent). Assuming that’s the case, pretty much any decent VW specialist should be able to check the switches are working.Your symptoms do suggest a microswitch issue to me.

Your instincts were bang on:Your symptoms do suggest a microswitch issue to me.
Just to bring this to a close, I took the car to the garage that maintained it for the previous owner (and indeed maintained my previous Ferrari for me) and within a few hours they had diagnosed the issue as 6 microswitches being out of sync, reset them and the roof has been perfect since!

What a great result, much better than the crazy bill throwing a new cylinder at it.
Did you happen to get the part number? The fantastic suggestion above about part number sharing for VAG cars sounded promising too.
We tried everything we could think of to get the part number, even stuck a little inspection camera inside the roof but to no avail, no number visible anywhere.Did you happen to get the part number? The fantastic suggestion above about part number sharing for VAG cars sounded promising too.
