Trickle Chargers - Minimum Useful Time
Discussion
i have several Optimate 4s. they're just 0.8 amp.
rather than leave on 24/7, they're on a timer for 3hrs/day. all go "go green" within that time over several months (ie charged and on "maintain" after initial levelling up charge). 5amps is a lot for just maintenance, but if you connect every few days it wouldn't take long to fully charge.
i also have a 20W Optimate solar charger that includes a charge controller to prevent overcharging. These work really well, though in winter you need to angle the panel well and enjoy some sunny days.

Thanks, that's a proper solar charger. I really need to fit a permanent live cigarette lighter though. https://www.optimate.co.uk/products/optimate-solar
