Just adding my contribution, I bought a Strongman Tamar just before Christmas.

Ground clearance was a concern, and I want to park the car over this when not in use so wanted some ramps that wouldn't make manoeuvring into the garage a PITA.

I've got floor tiles that are 12mm thick, and I'd calculated I needed 30mm extra clearance to be safe.

What I ended up with was 18mm ply cut into strips, with some checker plate rubber matting on top to match the tiles and some anodized aluminium edging trim to tidy it up.

The lift is great for Elise/Exige based cars, as the inaccessible areas are completely redundant anyway due to the totally flat floor and lack of transmission tunnel/exhaust etc. It's benefit would be reduced slightly on a front engined/rear drive car in all honesty, but would still be extremely useful for 'corner work'.

I had to modify my garage door runners to allow me to exploit maximum lift height of 1300mm.

that's a nice setup Fonzey... probably teaching my granny to suck eggs... but are you aware that if you don't use the very rear jacking points on the Lotus the car becomes VERY unstable on the hoist....

Yep, the jacking points I'm using are the approved ones for a 2 post lift. There are jacking points a little further forward which some garages have been guilty of using (as they don't require the undertray to come off) which results in cars falling off backwards....
