Hi all. Probably a basic question, but what would you recommend as a decent pair of pliers that'll last?

Ordinarily I'd just buy a cheap pair and replace when necessary, but I'm trying to build up a decent tool set (I've already got a good set of Wera screwdrivers) so I figure I might as well go for a premium pair!

Pliers.... there are many different types and sizes. Just spend what you’re happy spending. There’s no point going overdrawn at the bank for a full selection of Snap-On, so just decide which you need and spend the necessary.

Fair enough! Cheers for the suggestions, I'll have a look, point taken on not going mental though.

Best way to keep pliers, side cutters etc lasting is a regular drop of oil into the pivot and work them. The dirt and rust particals that come out is surprising. I work roadside so my gear tends to get a good soaking in the rain this method keeps them working and haven’t had to replace a pair yet.

Knipex as mentioned.

Way better than some of the famous trade brand names.

But the bigger comment. I can't remember the last time I used a pair of standard pliers on a car. Long nose, angled, slip joint, click clamp type, side cutters, but not not standard ones.

Save the money and wait until you need pliers and then buy the type you need, and will use.
