Hi

My Son has a 2007 Renault Clio 1.4 K4J engine , could someone tell me if this is a MkII or a Mk III Clio .

Am looking for a Cambelt kit and it is saying Clio Mk II BB-CB 1999 onwards , then Clio Mk III Sb-SR 2005 to Onwards .

so I am getting a bit confused as to what model the Clio is , I thought I had the correct kit , Sykes VKMC 06020 , but now I am wondering ! .

Cheers

Spike

For accuracy you need a supplier that goes by vin number and engine number. Registration number doesn't tell you build date or other info needed.

But have a look at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Clio

I would imagine it's a MK3, the MK2 was at end of life in 2007 and IIRC only came with the 1.2 engine in Campus/Campus sport trim.

MK2 -

MK3 -

It will be a Clio III, the Clio II ran on for a couple of years after the Clio III was launched in 2005, however it was either a Campus 1.2 8v or Campus Sport 1.2 16v, if yours is a 1.4 then it will be the Clio III.

Why?

There was a 1400 clio ll, similar engine code too.

Buy parts via somebody that can use vin number, and therefore an engine number. They will use the reg number to obtain it.

Iirc the difference on these is the number of teeth on the belt. You don't want to strip it down and then find out you have the wrong kit.

As noted in my response, 2007 could be either a late Campus or a Clio III, the Campus was a MkII which was still in production for 2 years after the MkIII was launched, however it was only available in either 1.2 8v or 16v, not a 1.4, so therefore a 2007 Clio 1.4 will be a Clio III.

Then I bow to the knowledge of clio's.

If you still believe the belt kit changes with the model, and not the engine then I hope you get the right kit. The k4j engine was used in mk2 and mk3.

The engine was used in the mk2, but not as late as 2007.

My point is

That engine code was used in the mk 2, and the mk3 .

The way to tell what timing belt kit is needed is via the engine number, there is no other way of being certain, other than stripping the engine down and comparing the belts and tensioners.

It doesn't matter what model clio it is if the op wants to ensure getting the right bits 1st time.

Yes you are correct, however my point is, the 1.4 wasn't in a Clio II in 2007.
