2 Hi,
I have a very trustworthy up until now combo c 1.7 cdti work horse 143k. But On Saturday with no warning I went to change gear and something snapped behind the clutch pedal.
On closer inspection I found the arm or rod from the clutch master cylinder had snapped.
Thinking it was just a tear and wear,
I ordered a new master cylinder. However it seems that when the clutch is pressed it will go about 50mm then its very hard to push and causes the white plastic clip which connects this rod to pedal to come out of its retaining clip. Infact it has now snapped the new master cylinder arm.

The pedal sits in an alloy frame and there is play side to side of the pedal and it doesn't seem to fit square so have ordered a second hand one to see if it is this.

But what else on the clutch hydraulic system could cause the master cylinder to be so hard. It just breaks before ita fully engage Infact I can't get it to engage.

Anyone else had this issue

Slave cylinder fault preventing normal operation?

Something on the lines of the piston not retracting as normal so it's fully extended, can't go any further & when you press the pedal something has to give.

Does the master cylinder and pedal assembly work OK if you open the bleed screw on the slave? That would tell you whether the problem is to do with the master cylinder as you're suggesting, or the slave.

Could even be a problem in the bell housing eg bearing collapsing or the arm can occasionally break or fracture

Not actually tried this as I have bled with pressure bleeder so will try the 2 man manual method and see
