VAT free day at Machine Mart soon - MIG welder advice

Apparently theres a VAT free day in the coming weeks at Machine Mart and I think I'm going to need a welder.

I'm a total novice when it comes to welding, going to be using it to stitch the floorpan on my daily drive back together for its MOT.

What do I need in terms of functionality and can anyone recommend a particular welder?
