I was driving down the M4 earlier and passed an articulated lorry, on closer inspection it was obviously the Sky Broadcasting truck heading for the Liberty Stadium for this weekends football. It got me thinking what kind of magic kit this rig was carrying and my mind soon wondered on to cost, I should imagine this rig was carrying millions of pounds worth of kit?

It got me thinking, whats do you think is the most valuable load carried on a standard UK Truck? Formula One team? Truck jammed full with Iphones? Sky Broadcasting truck? Do they carry gold/cash on artic lorries etc? Genuinely interested to hear some suggestions smile

The ex wifes brother used to drive artics for Brinks, regularly over to Ireland with an armed escort, not sure what they carried though.

Nuclear missiles must be worth a few quid. They are transported to Faslane by lorry so I'm going with that.

For comparison, when I did some agency work for primark, they used to put the load value at the hottom of the notes. In an 18 ton rigid lorry, there was £185,482 worth of clothes. wind that up to a 38 ton truck and make the goods high value and you are looking at some serious money.

185 grands worth (cost) of Primark clothes on an 18MT truck?

That sounds a lot.

Retail value, not cost.

think how many kids tshirts you can fit in a 50cm/50cm/50cm box. then imagine the truck filled floor to ceiling with all that.

That must have been the entire UK stock value

That's probably what it's worth to Primark, not what the goods are actually worth at cost. It sounds more when you consider 18 tonne is the gross weight, they can only carry 10 tonne maximum.

ETA: Beaten to it.

A trio of Minis is the best way to transport gold.

My first thought was Petrol Tanker, but it seems the largest 'only' holds 44,000 litres, at £1.40 a litre that's £60k ish, no not as much at the Primark lorry it seems.

Rather blows the plot of Fast n Furious 3, or maybe 7 I can't remember them all when they try to steal a tanker worth $x millions.

Ah right, retail makes more sense. smile

We import meat and the most expensive truck we bring in is around £85k cost and would sell for around £144k.

Probaby cigarettes. Lightweight and high value.

I once had to deliver 5 binbags worth of cases (outers) of cigarettes once in a small van and the value of that must have been in the tens of thousands. Multiply that by the carrying capacity of an artic and that's got to be pretty sizeable.

Generally speaking, the concept of Physics blows the plot in all of those films.

Isn't the maximum 44 tonnes?

Yes they carry Gold and Cash etc on them we used to do a couple of special vehicles which had alsorts of mods done to them. For eg bullet proof glass etc. I never saw the trailers so not sure what they were like but i suppose they were special to. The truck was really heavy compared to std so presume the trailer would be to, take that into account of how much gold etc you would be able to carry.

God knows what would be woth the most. Pretty much everything in this country gets delivered by Trucks so the

We move a lot of phones around and the insurance company limit us to £2m load when we get busy.

26 pallets per truck x 420 (or more) phones per pallet x £400 average each (lots more if all iPhones for instance) means over £4m if they let us fill them!

That's gross weight of an artic, not an 18 tonne rigid. A standard 44 tonne artic will take 24.

Would have to agree with that sentiment. Needs to be high £ per lb to garner the most value if there is a weight constraint. Hypothetical 38 tonner full of charlie anyone? 20-30 grand a kilo?

Yes but you quoted my post which was about LSI's Primark load on his old rigid.
