Mercedes HGV Mirror Cameras

Speaking as a car driver, I prefer old school mirrors. I can see the driver, and see if they have seen me. I cant do that until possibly too late with cameras.
Lot to be said for drivers of all vehicles to be able to see the driver in his mirrors.If the driver is in a hivis take that as a warning, keep that in mind as you go about and see if your observation tallies.

You can cancel the wide angle bit underneath the adjuster arrows there are two buttons, one for heating, the other one to cancel wide angle. With the water blocking the mirror, I just extend my hand to wipe it off
Yeah I looked it up after it took me 4 attempts to get on the yard bay! Just found it very difficult to see the trailer wheels. Ended up doing it with my head out the window! I haven't had the chance to get back in a new Actros yet as I have been going down to Kent and Enfield the past few weeks and have been given Scania's as that's the tell tale sign you are going down to London!

One other thing with conventional mirrors-I can lean one way or the other and change the angle and therefore see more in the mirror-not happening with a camera.
The camera can do that at a far bigger angle than you can do by leaning. Edited by and31 on Sunday 1st May 21:33

Oh how I love London (not). I haven't had the chance to get back in a new Actros yet as I have been going down to Kent and Enfield the past few weeks and have been given Scania's as that's the tell tale sign you are going down to London!

I had a demo with them: not nearly as bad as expected, but still unsuitable on a 32t tipper. On a road only vehicle then they are far less of an issue, but on a vehicle which is constantly expected to go where it doesn't fit, expensive cameras are an Achilles heel.
That’s my biggest problem. You don’t know where they are :O. I have to say though, never liked mercs and especially not the camera ones. But now that I have this one permanently it’s growing on me. You have to change your driving style to suit the gearbox and it’s all good It is fair to say, that the fixed cameras on a Mercedes Arocs are not its biggest shortcomings. Mercedes make cheap nasty trucks with shocking transmission software and dynamics and nearly undrivable cab comfort unless you pay extra.
You'll be too busy holding onto the steering wheel for dear life and sending the gearbox an email to let it know that you want to pull into a gap in the traffic...

I’m not a big Mercedes fan either.

Drove one of these the other night and don't like the cameras myself, much easier (especially as a new driver) with the mirrors! Luckily it was a bit of a one off and I'm mainly in my trusty DAF XF480.
For all DAF’s faults(bloody electrical gremlins in our case),the mirrors are excellent.no complaints at all on that score.towser44 said:

DAF = endless sensor faults...
Can't beat a bit of DAF Bingo :-) I can hear the stupid warning noise in my sleep lol
To be fair I quite like them,my CF is a day cab and has plenty of room,excellent engine brake,nice to drive although it’s a bit gutless at 400bhp,but at least it has a gearstick!! If it had a splitter instead of the 8 speed it wouldn’t be too bad at all!
