Just starting our second week in a site just outside Looe, the owner has cut the numbers of campers by over 50%, it seems empty compered to normal but means no que’s for anything.

Currently at Warner Farm, Selsey.

Lots of rain, wind and chockablock with pond life, we won’t be rushing back here in a hurry.
Had the BH weekend there. Rain had passed but a little blustery.

Seemed to be a lot of "Essex" there, groups of feral kids whizzing round on electric scooters.

They were running the evening entertainment at seriously reduced numbers, reservations being taken from 4pm, people camping outside the doors from 2pm with their cans of cider for sustenance. Had to book for swimming but was well managed and not too busy.

Tried all 5 pubs in Selsey for dinner on Sunday with no luck, ended up waiting an hour for Papa John's pizza on site.

Having said all that, was still an enjoyable weekend.

We had a nice week at Applefields camp site in Leiston, Suffolk, which is handy for accessing that part of the coast.

Privately owned and managed, friendly owners, very good value for money if a little basic, but all Covid sensibilities were being well observed.

Enjoyed a lovely site in Jersey, place was almost deserted as were the beaches, mandatory testing as you enter the island has kept their C19 cases to about 15 currently active. We were due to continue to France and the FCO advice changed midweek so we had to squeeze onto an overnight freighter to get back to UK and avoid 14 day quarantine.

Is that Rozel Camping Park? My brither has lived in St Helier for 25yrs as he married a Jersey girl, but when he first moved there he lived in a tiny single-bed bedsit, so when I went to visit one summer I took my tent and camped there, had a glorious hot summer where it was mostly too hot to zip the tent up at night so I often slept on my may outside it! Must return, even though our kid now has somewhere far more palatial!

Nice spot on the coast, windy but sunny for 4 days last week. Off grid and no facilities, but will go again.

Yes it's Rozel, we somehow end up there every year, it's a lovely site.

Time to change this to "So when do the PH campers think sites will close again?" yet?

I've taken a punt booking a few nights at a site on the coast at Dunwich over half-term. Half-expecting to have it cancelled by whatever Circuit Break/Lockdown gets called in the coming weeks.

I thought I recognized it - last went there in '96, amazing how you recognize the topography.

We had a great weekend break at Blackland Lakes site on the outskirts of Calne in Wiltshire this weekend.

Really nice, well managed site and very Covid aware, but also had a small onsite outdoor bar open Friday and Saturday evening with proper pub tables, so we were able to enjoy a few beers under the stars in a beer garden type environment, but without having to leave the site.

Just back from a trip to Cheltenham/Cornwall/Glastonbury.

All good especially the Cornwall part. The site we used is big and the pitches are huge so plenty of social distancing happening.

Had a good weekend at Long Meadow campsite on the outskirts of Lyndhurst in the New Forest this weekend. Nice site, lovely for walks and cycling into the forest but a rather officious warden running around on a bit of a power trip was a bit of a dampener.

Bizarrely, given current circumstances, they seemed to want to cram everyone into one side of a 400 pitch meadow. Also mega strict on the 1pm arrival time, not allowed on if arriving before this time, even if your pitch is empty.

On a PH related note I wanted to metaphorically press my face up the window of Meridien Modena to gawp at a lovelt Ferrari FF they have in stock, but I don't think pitching up on the forecourt towing a 30yr old Eriba behind our 120k miles 54 plate Honda FR-V mumtruck is really the image that most serious buyers like to portray, so I left it for another time. hehe

We are looking at doing one more outing over school half term, Covid local lockdown restrictions permitting. Ironically, given the closure of other holiday options this year we have used our 'Van the most since we have owned it. I'm rather disappointed that to be having to put it away for winter.

Alongside our trip to Scotland in August, we've been to Keswick (nice site but town too busy), Carsington Water (very Covid aware site), Hawes in Wensleydale (big site - not to my taste and it rained all day Saturday) and booked a weekend at Cayton Bay (nr Scarborough) for the end of the month. I thought the current raft of 'Tier' restrictions might have impacted campsite, but seem not. We are in our own little bubble when away anyway.

We managed five trips away in our Eriba between August and end of October:

The Red Shoot at Linwood, New Forest
Applefields at Leiston, Suffolk
Blackland Lakes at Calne, Wiltshire
Long Meadow at Lyndhurst, New Forest
Warcombe Farm at Woolacombe, Devon

The first two and the last were full weeks in the school holidays, the others were just weekends. I'm quite happy with that, given the limitations of Covid 19 restrictions. All of the sites were incredibly well run, I felt more socially distanced than I do from our neighbours at home.

We had a week and a half booked to stay up in Cirencester starting next week which has obviously now been cancelled so I have rebooked for later in December now...fingers crossed.

We are off to the west Wales coast for 6 nights instead as our lockdown here in Wales ends next Monday and we are free to travel and holiday inside the country.

What are people's plans for 2021 then?

We have provisionally booked a week at our favourite in the New Forest for August, but everything is currently up in the air due to Covid.

My experience of last summer was that all campsites and most people on them were being very sensible about social-distancing etc.

I'd be very disappointed if sites didn't open from Easter, despite what Grant Schapps has said this week.

We can't go abroad but I do think we'll be unlocked for the summer and it'll be pretty much like last summer, but I don't expect the taxpayer will be subsidising people eating out this time.

A neighbour runs a campervan hire business and has several VW's. He's fully booked for the year.

I expect hotels and campings to be at full capacity and no chance of a pitch unless you've booked well ahead. We plan to do some stealthy wild camping if there's no room at the inn.

Indications are that many sites are pretty much fully booked already.
Today we were trying to find a CL near the Yorkshire coast in August, it was a struggle but we did get in.
I expect that will be our only week away this time, though we will be moving the Van up to the seasonal pitch as soon as we can.

Personally I think the government have got the statement that you shouldn’t book for a UK break, very wrong. A more realistic approach is to say, by all means book, but we can’t promise you won’t have to cancel. Especially given the health secretary himself HAS booked... !

I don't agree. One thing we've learnt about this pandemic, is that there's absolutely no future certainty in anything - ask all the pub and restaurant operators who reopened. What the gov don't want to do is tell everyone to book a UK holiday and then put us back in lockdown after all the leisure operators have employed their seasonal staff and incurred significant costs reopening their businesses.
