George Orwell - Down and Out in Paris and London....
Discussion
Anyone read this? I've read both 1984 and Animal Farm and thought both were really, really good. This one is much less known, has anyone on here read it? If so....thoughts?
Not sure what to read next, I'm away on holiday in a week so wanted something short that I may just about be able to finish before I go away!
Cheers

I've not got to this one yet.
I read 'The Road to Wigan Pier' recently, and of course previously 'Animal Farm' and '1984',
'Homage to Catalonia', though I've not yet read it, would appear to be another important work.
Along with 'Wigan Pier' and 'Down and Out in Paris and London', they all contribute to his biography as much as political commentary.
His essays as well can be at the least informative and thought provoking.
There is a small PH thread on Orwell here;
George Orwell.

Read several of his stories including 1984 and AF in a collected works volume thing once; found it all a bit bleak and depressing both in themselves and how accurately he portrays mankind in the broader sense.
I would have been a teenager at the time, so more than half a lifetime ago, maybe I should give them another go.

1984 and AF are fantastic books. Very dark, indeed, but utterly fantastic IMO!I would have been a teenager at the time, so more than half a lifetime ago, maybe I should give them another go.
