Heard on the french radio this morning that the police up near Calais have nabbed 2 drivers taking part in the cannonball run to Rimini in Italy. The Kent police tipped them off that a bunch of 30 sports cars were on their way over (bastards!).

One fezza at 240 kph, the other a Porsche at 195 kph. Drivers locked up while the administration creaks into gear and decides what to do with them. Apparently they are considering trying to make a charge of damgerous driving stick, so that they can confiscate the cars and then sell them for benefit of the state.

Hard luck to those who got caught, even though I'm not sure that you do other performance car drivers a great favour. Presumably that means that 28 runners slipped the net and have (by now) finished hooning across Italy, hopefully without incident.

Dunno - unless I hear otherwise I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they were driving fast in an appropriate manner. Driving very fast on empty Monday evening roads in northern France doesn't bother me at all, but obviously if they were weaving through traffic at speed then they deserve a judicial slapping.

Can only agree, overrich nobodies thumbing their noses at everybody, including good sense, driving like chav Novaboy in his dustbin, deserve to get done.....
Apart from which they seek attention with their behaviour but when they get it they cry like the little babies they are........
Spoils all the fun for the occassional blatt that we want to do without behaving like eejits!

You guys are great moralisers. Note that there are no reports of accidents or other problems - they were just driving quickly, something with which I have no issues if it is done without putting others in danger.

They are willing to risk run-ins with the law to have a bit of fun - something that we all do if we speed. They double that risk by doing it an organised event - surely that is their problem?

So what are your problems with this - that they're rich? Or you're assuming that they're all chinless hoorays? I don't really know or care either way, but you guys seem very quick to judge. What about solidarity among speeders?!?!

I am sure the French police would do the same thing (not). Anyone want a better example of why we love our police?

At least you are honest rather than disguising your jealousy as a righteous dig

I'll hate Rich people until the day i'm rich.. Then i'll hate poor people..

Lets not condemn these guys without knowing the facts.. Otherwise we're no better than some of the Politicians and Journo's over here..

I'm sure a good percentage of us have 'toe'd it' a bit at some time on a clear road..

(And i gotta be honest.. If i had the money i would jump at going on the Gumball event!!)

There was sarcasm in my comment - I hope you got!
I abhor the jealous bitter attitude that seems to be mainly prevalent in the UK, particularly the Chavy areas!

The problem is that SOME rich people are just talentless, obnoxious, greedy, charlatans that get up the nose's of normal, decent hardworking people.

However their observations skills were not sufficient to spot the police and they got done.

Tough!

And I have earned the right to be self righteous - 30 years of driving and nil points

Fair enough - the tough luck reaction I understand. Has to be said that the police had a bit of an advantage after being told that they were coming!

Observation is not enough, gone are the days where speed enforcment was carried out in the sporting manner of "the driver's spotted us so, he's concentrating, we'll ignore him". I've known of French Police zapping people from behind bushes. No sliproads or bridges etc, just a loan motorbike cop parked up behind a hedge! with cars being pulled over further up the autoroute.

pretty much anytime I watch coverage of the cannonball on men and motors or any other channel the cars are being driven dangerously and with no regard to other drivers.

Agreed a lot of us speed by what is considered to be the limits set by our draconian government. but to drive outside the limit of the car and ourselves and the condition, given cannonball coverage has been shown on tv more than a few times making a quick judgement based on the previous runs seems like a perfectly natural thing to do.

Kent Police should be ashamed of themselves for the tip-off - what on earth are they playing at ratting on their own countrymen with no evidence of any misdemeanour or criminal act taking place.

A few years ago the French Police were found to be encouraging asylum seekers to stow away and get themselves out of Calais and over to Dover so they'd be our problem and not theirs. The upshot of this being that the police in Kent would have had more work to do in rounding them up and processing them. And now the Kents are kissing French ass in return!
