Aghhh - not a Fiat Coupe.... wasnt the thread title "reliable"? Sorry to all those Coupe drivers out there, but I know of so many people that have had them and had problem after problem - in fact they all got rid of them pretty damn quickly....
Then again, isnt that like TVRs? Ok, different market, but be careful with Fiats - they are a little notorious.
Cheers,
Paul

This is in danger of turning into another -all car-related business are, by definition pants- thread but I'd steer clear of Fiats/Alfas as well. My neighbour is the dealer principal of a large Derbys. Alfa/Fiat dealer. They have a 65% return rate within 6 months on new cars and, whilst they have an excellent rep. for sorting them, I wouldn't want to gamble on 13/20 cars needing to be mended when new.
I had a 166 from another dealer-when supplied the dash display unit was broken (literally, there was a crack across it), it went back in, they mended the screen, the buttons broke, they mended the buttons, the phone broke, they mended the phone, the GPS broke, they mended the GPS, the engine developed top-end rattle, they mended the engine, the clutch went. I REJECTED IT. I've just got the money (less a £1250 'administrative' fee) back. In this case the dealership were excellent throughout, unfortunately the car was appalling. Hence the Bora.

Well guys - stage 1 complete! I have bought a VW Golf diesel off my mate for £3k! Not bad for an N plate i reckon and should return around 45 mpg. Cheap to run and insure.
Then that leaves me with the decision - when (not if!) to get my TVR.... I have about £2k in savings so i dont want to get a loan right this minute as paying insurance and loan repayments (and servicing etc) might spell financial ruin!
Incidently - i have been trying to get a few online quotes and have found that insurance is as loopy as it gets - to be expected i guess considering that i lost my 8 years no claims last year when i almost rolled my top of range VR6 due to f#ck#ng road works and tar/shit left on the road. I was only doing 35 mph (as had pulled away from lights) - lost control completely (not being a prat - you learn not to when you have to pay for the cars!).... tried to steer into skid, ended up hitting the bank back to my left at right angles as the old girl found traction, braced myself with my foot - unfortunately on the accelerator....which meant travelling about 30m at 90 degrees to the road (tyre tracks running along vertical bank).....then crossing road and flying through a fence to end up in a farers field!
Anyway - i digress...the point im about to make is that a friend of mine apparently has an insurance policy via Lloyds or something that gives insurance on the driver. He is allowed up to 5 cars with total value £30k on this policy - cost him around £800 - also includes travel and home insurance. Sounds too good to be true so im gonna try and find out! That could be the insurance problem sorted though....
