sorry for going slightly off topic here but I love odd-ball estates.

I saw one of the very first of these on the motorway (as a passenger) and had to get my boss to subtly chase after it so I could get a photo because I knew nobody would believe me:

Always has a soft spot for this too:

Pretty sure that they also moved the rear seats back a bit to make them more useable.
You're right, from Eventer n° 41 the rear bulkhead was modified and moved back 3.5 inches to give place for deeper rear seats.

I love the Lynx Eventer - can't think of a better way to cross Europe with a Labrador!
Talking of old Jags, I was surprised how much rear legroom there was in that Lister Le Mans XJS at the Classic Car show
have you been amputated at the knees or had a midget been driving?
The Lister Le Mans was stretched as I recall for rear legroom

.. found it

Yep, until I saw one I didn't realise how much roomier it was in the back than a standard XJS coupe

Only in name AFAIA. Worked there a while ago as they finished the last XKSS. Fell out with the then owner, the place was closing down shortly afterwards so it was no great problem for me! There were only 5 or 6 employee's then and the alloy body/chassis were made in Coventry.
Last thing I heard the name was up for sale but there was a problem with someone wanting their bits back which apparently were no longer there.......

yes that definitely gets the nod for my needs; very subtle, very special. IIRC somebody on here has (or had) one.

According to this

http://www.lynxeventer.com/les-eventers-identifies...

At least 67 were made. There is also a picture of one used for banger racing. What sort of lunatic would do that to such a rare and desirable car?yikes

The sort of person who thinks of car crashes as a leisure activity rather than something to be avoided. Have you ever been to a banger race? They are all complete mentalists. thumbup

As it was already explained somewhere around here, the bangered Eventer was bought for few quids in a scrapyard. It was told that the roof had already been destroyed as the car was lifted with a crane. But no picture taken before the race shows any evidence of that...

Until it was raced !

Hyper Transformations (also known as Hyper, Hyper Engineering or Hyper XJS), the company of Paul Hands, built a highly modified "Hyper Eventer" in 1999. The car was a cocktail of Hyper and Lynx: Eventer conversion n°58 + Hyper body kit + many Hyper modifications: powered engine, manual gearbox, stiffer suspensions, Corbeau seats, etc, etc. The car was build regardless of cost but ended poorly 8 days after delivery in a crash. There are no picture of the Hyper Eventer before the crash.

Here it is now, not looking so bad from LH

Worst looking from rear

Not better from front

http://www.lynxeventer.com/products/eventer-rouge-...

She's now in process of a complete rebuild in Germany.

Listers were not stretched, the rear bulkhead was modified (moved back 2 in.) to allow wider rear seats (was it standard or optional I don't know, this transformation is not referenced in the price lists and brochures I own). Lynx did the same from Eventer 41 to the end of production, moving back the rear bulkhead 3.5 in.

The only known 4 wheels stretched XJS is the one made by Glenform limited (Bristol) for Guy Salmon. A hugly duck but a freak.

Others stretched XJS I know are 6 wheels!

Couldn't let the 6 wheels comment go. Google is my friend. Elegant or what?
