Not as good as the 3 year old "What-car" thread I saw resurrected.

i just read through this whole thread before realising it covers almost half a decade

no one mentioned that the lancia thema 2.0 16v turbo was faster to 60 than the ferrari engined one, though i think it gets spanked on top speed

carry on... tongue out

A friend has just bought a 4.5L 5-series on an M-plate for 250 squids!

Looks like a pretty much standard 5-series with the 540 badge the only hint of what it has. After a little TLC I bet it'll be ready for the road to scare all the chavs in their LED laiden cars hehe

I think a lot of people have missed the OP's point.
It says "porsche chasers" and people are posting about some st mobiles that do 0-60 in 7 seconds.
I think these days you'd be hard pressed to find a modern unassuming looking car that DOESN'T do that.

One of these for me please

Lancia Thema 8.32, Ferrari 3.2 V8 engine (essentially the same lump as in the Ferrari 328 but de-tuned ever so slightly for more torque. And I think that the engine was built on the Ducati production line rather than the Ferrari one.

0-60mph in 5.2 secs iirc?

Ph'er justayellowbadge will know more than me.
great shout!

Even ignoring all the giveaways that tonker mentioned, the problem is you 'd be surprised to see a regular carlton on the road these days in the first place, kind makes you more suspicious to it doesn't it.

"there is a carlton looming in my rearview mirror, I wonder if it's the lotus one or has someone actually bothered to keep the vauxhall version roadworthy?"
