So, what do you think is the world's most beautiful engine? It could be a car, bike, plane, standard or modified engine, but if it inspires you somehow, post up pics here!

I saw a Napier Lion W12 engine in a car at Brooklands once, and it just blew me away. Here's one out of the car:

But winner for the most beautiful engine for me has to be the Vincent Vee-Twin. Pure sex:

What do you think?

For shiny beauty I'd say the Ryan Falconer V12, same size port spacing as a Merlin in a P-51D Mustang and often used in Mustangs for the Reno Air Races.

Got to agree the Alfa V6 is a great looking engine. Don't know much about the other one, but best it's more kinds... functional... than beautiful.

Hmm, for me I think it'd have to be something liek this:

Internal combustion engines are a lot of things, pretty is not one of them IMHO.

Probably not the most beautiful engine but I love the way the VW 16V inlet manifold was a classic case of function creating form, combined with the braded hoses for the mechanicalk injection it can look great.

Okay, if we're doing any engine, I'm going to have to go for this:

It is a shame how modern engines are covered up with plastic, hiding everything from you frown

Many people tempted to find the biggest, shiniest, fanciest engine to nominate, but I'd like to choose something small, simple, effective, musical, "pretty" and an inspiration for many engines to come.

It turned a hum drum 4 seater family saloon into a world class racing car.

This was once a mundane engine before I commissioned some engineering work.

Yes, but the majority of steam engines are external combustion engines

Indeed. I think that's one of the reasons they look nicer - you can see more of what's going on.
