M3 GTS-R Run-Out Special Rumoured

Whispers reach PH's ears of an even-more hardcore M3

New car will be based on M3 GTS
New car will be based on M3 GTS
BMW is rumoured to be planning to celebrate its recent win at the Nurburgring 24hrs with an even more extreme version of the sold-out M3 GTS.

Details are scarce - and official info non-existent - but a thread on the BMW forum m3post.com suggests that the new car could be called the M3 GTS-R and that it will be a final hurrah for the current M3.

The GTS-R is expected to get all the features of the M3 GTS, including the adjustable carbon fibre rear spoiler and lightweight side windows, but adds a double-lip front spoiler pumped-up rear arches and a carbon fibre bonnet and rear boot lid.

The engine is likely to be the enlarged 444bhp 4.4-litre V8 from the GTS, and could possibly get the KERS regenerative braking and power boost system expected on the next-gen M5.

The GTS's striking orange paintwork won't be carried over, however; the GTS-R is said to be getting a matt black paint job.

May as well amortize the development costs over more cars, especially since the GTS is sold out.

Colour choice would have been nice.

HOW much ??! Way too expensive. Rather have Porsche, GT-R's are better and cheaper etc etc...

Why won't they make BMW Motorsport colours an option, like on their bikes?

Anyway, that's something I would like to see. Somewhere between the GTS and the GT2/3 racers would be lovely. Thanks.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying that the GTS is sold out! I'vr got two dealers that I use a fair bit who think they can easily get me a car

Good. Orange just looks wrong on a Beemer.

because people fall off the order list so there will be cars that can be offered to those further down

Because wives open their husbands respective bank statements, realise that hubby is about to buy something for himself and subsequently, they are forced to cancel the order and buy a Prada handbag instead. Ergo there will be cars that can be offered to those further down

Didn't we establish in the earlier thread that the price only seemed mad because it was in euros rather than sterling? Not saying that it would have represented better value for money than a GT3 but not as madly priced as was originally thought?

If I'd just put my life savings into one of the limited run of M3 GTSs - and then saw this article..

I'd buy a Porsche.

Agree, proof that people think the recession is over.

Here's one BMW made at the height of the 70's recession. Cost new was about £7k.

I didn't read the whole of the last thread, got boring after xx amount of pages wink I was under the impression that the price (116.5k) was in sterling, which if so, is frankly ridiculous. Not "guff".

Dont get me wrong, I think the m3 is an awesome car - when its priced more in keeping with what it actually is smile
