Fastest Smiley ever?

PHer Andy Frost (redvictor) has been campaigning his Vauxhall Victor on the quarter-mile for many years now, and he's owned it for almost 30. Needless to say, the Victor has seen some changes over the years, starting out as just a fast road car and ending up as the fastest street-legal car in the UK.

The new Red Victor 3 is quite some car, but have you noticed something? It has a registration number, it will have a valid MOT and it will still be able to drive you to Sainsbury's... but it will do 200mph and run a 5 second quarter too. RV3 is still in build, but if the plans work, it will take the record of the fastest street legal car in the world, and PistonHeads will be along for the ride as we are new team partners.

Over the next few months we'll be keeping you updated with build progress as Andy and the team work hard to get the car ready for the 2011 season. Once the car is built we'll be strapping Riggers into the passenger seat with the sole intention of filming him losing his lunch, and we'll have in-depth info on what goes into making a world-beating car.

As soon as Red Victor 3 takes to the strip we'll be running competitions and offers for track entry, giving PHers no excuses not to cheer Andy and the PH logo on to victory (see what we did there?)

More news will follow as the car progresses, but in the meantime we wish Andy and the team the best of luck and we look forward to the coming season.

Will it also do a 5 second quarter, be built at home by a normal bloke, and be based on a 30+ year old vauxhall? If not then it isn't really competing in the same league.

The terminal quarter mile or the Veyron is approx 140mph:
10.2 seconds at 230 km/h (142.9 mph)

So it covers the quarter mile in less than half the time of the Bug!

Been reading the build thread since April, a very impressive machine, and even more impressive team of people.

Are you sure you mean 5-second quarters? That's Pro Mod territory!

Current Street Eliminator cars are 7-second runners at best, right? Maybe you could hit a 6, but surely not a 5!

I question a number of items in your statement:
30 year old Vauxhall...only just about based on it. More like taking a 30yo Vauxhall and using it as a source of metal for a brand new drag car!
Built at home... Built in a workshop.
and finally
Normal Bloke... Yeah right. Anybody who does this is not normal. (And I'm not prepared to check if he's a bloke!)

It's being built to enter pro mod, so yes.
From what Andy and Slinky have been saying it should hit high 6's during it's initial test/setup runs.

5 second Quarter - Ya right. It has mid to low 2000bhp.

A Top fuel Rail or Funny car have 8000bhp and run at best 4.5second quarters! Fastest 1/4 by Tony Schmacher broke the lights at 337.58 in 2005 and 4.428. US Top Fuel races are now held over a 305 metres and are even quicker (as of this year).

There is even a link in the Red Victor website showing a typical run 7.6 sec and 189mph in the Quarter.
