In addition, the time was around 10pm int he Castle Bromwich/Smiths Wood area of Birmingham, and the police believe the car may be used in an armed robbery.

I agree, thats just what the police told him.

Earlier yesterday, him and a friend in another white Sierra Cosworth had a play with two Chimeras in the Birmingham area too if it was anyone off this site!

Yes, it has been found in one piece thankfully. I am unsure as to the full details at the moment, but thanks for being vigilant everyone!

I can assure you it isnt! I myself am waiting to hear the exact details of how the car was returned, but it would seem that there was more to it than a simple car jacking and recovery. Although I think he would prefer to keep the matter between his close friends, of which I am not one! So I will remain as intrigued as you guys!

Anyway, if the message reads as an advertisement I am 100% behind the moderators editing the contact details out of the original message or deleting the thread altogether, as I guess the matter is now closed really?!

Ok more bad news guys, although this car was found undamaged, a different car was stolen last night.

This one was a black RS500 cosworth taken from the pub car park at an RS owners club meet.

Here are two pictures of the car, and it is also featured in the current 'Redline' magazine managing 191mph at Bruntingthorpe proving grounds.

The reg is E421 FUR and it was taken at 9pm from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire at the Blacksmith Arms.

Apparently there was no glass on the floor and no sign of the car. It seems someone is out to steal the most recognisable cosworths they can find at the moment!

Obviously you dont want people with a thread for every car stolen in the country, but I hope you don't mind me tagging this on to the end of the current one.

I certainly hope the first incident wasn't an insurance attempt, as many people spent their own good time trying to help the guy. Plus, as far as I know the agreed valuation he has on his insurance is far lower than the time it cost him to build his engine!

As the guy from the first one does not want to talk about it I can only guess at what happened, but I think that it is more than just a co-incidence that the two fastest 3 door cosworths are both stolen within two days of eachother..

If they were normal ones I wouldnt have bothered to post on a non-Ford related site, but i'm sure you guys understand the time and effort it takes to reach the top of the tree with performance cars, and both of them are instandtly recognisable, and use almost no parts original to the car.. And the chance of obtaining the full value of the car back from the insurance!

As for trackers on insurance a cosworth, not a single company has told me this is a requirement on my own car! Although I will be seriosuly looking into this now!

P.S. The second guy is not particlarly a friend of mine, I have only met him at one or two trackdays so I hope i'm not that unlucky!

Feel free to remove the thread if you wish, but I can assure you I am not selling anything (Why would i try and sell anything Ford related on Pistonheads? Please, use your intelligence!), just trying to help out someone who has had his pride and joy stolen, as i'm sure you would like others to do for you if you had such a rare car stolen.

More information on the stolen car can be found here: www.reyland.co.uk/stolen.htm

The owner assured me he had very expensive security fitted to the car, but it would seem no tracking device.

I will remove the first post information, as reading it again does seem to read like an advert. I was just trying to stress the difference of the car in question from any other white cosworth.

Apparently the stolen car was spotted on the Spalding bypass (local to where it was stolen from I have been told) under an hour ago doing rediculous speeds by someone who saw the advert posted on a forum! They reported it to the police as soon as they could, who are now keeping an eye out. So thats very good news and proof that a post like this can work!

Hi, in referance to buying the Sapphire you want to be asking the usual questions on its history, ensure it has all the original panels and paint preferably, check if the car has any rust and try to find out how much the previous owner "cared" for the car (i.e. Servicing, undersealing, even down to things like tyres as cheap tyres are a good sign of neglected funds)

Check that the specification of the wrok carried by castle out matches the claimed power output of the car and the work is fully documented in the history (There is a reasonable guide to modifications needed for certain power outputs on the Castle performance website) As when I was looking for a car someone tried to sell me a car they claimed had 470bhp when it was infact largely standard.

If it is a 4x4 make sure it has all the original leather interior and whatnot and just dont pay over the odds.

On the plus side if you crash it, its worth more in parts anyway!

It may also be well worth your time doing a search on a couple of Ford forums for a Cosworth buying guide as there have been many topics on the subject from people far more knowledgeable than myself! (Try www.passionford.com and www.rsownersclub.co.uk)

So in summary, check the usual things (ask if it has any knocks, bangs fromt he suspension, the gearbox should be fairly quiet, and ask if the engine has any knocks etc)
