Really?!

I've tried to be patient and ignore the bad reputation the Christian has among fans. He's quite clearly done a superb job as a team leader in terms of delivering championships (all his employer will care about), but I find this ridiculous and I now struggle not to join the scorning masses.

My 'favourite' quote in ¶7: "...whether that's Fernando Alonso taking off his cap and throwing it in the crowd as soon as Sebastian talks on the podium to get a reaction."

Fernando celebrating with his fans is encouraging the crowd to boo Vettel? As I began...

...REALLY?!

Rant over.

Is he merely trying to deflect some of the pressure, currently being felt by Vettel, by citing seemingly ludicrous excuses examples?

It would seem the booing is upsetting him - not affecting his performances tho.

But dragging other drivers (who he claims to respect) into the problem with, quite frankly, numpty statements isn't going to help Seb's state of mind. The more I think about it (and seethe) the more pathetic it seems.

It's good team management. It's already got you seething about Horner instead of Vettel.

Jose Mourinho is the master at this.

Horner is greatly underrated IMO; he has been one of the most successful Team Bosses ever whether you like him or not.
Echoes of Brawn/Todt/Schumacher in Newey/Horner/Vettel.

It isn't good management if the booing really is upsetting Seb. This kind of rubbish from Horner will encourage people to carry on as it's starting to get a reaction. The man has never been afraid to talk utter bks although he's undeniably done a great job.

Vettel gets boo'd because he was a devious little knob over Multi21, and that fuc ng finger, which deserves to be stuck up his cornhole.

The daft thing is, even if he's right, and Alonso DID throw a hat when Vettel was talking, who cares? The "Ali-esque" mind games only work if you let them, and throwing a hat is NOT the same as encouraging booing.

One of the problems for both (which isn't really a problem) is that vettel, and to a much greater extent Horner are full of st 90% of the time during interviews. Horner even smirks a bit when he lies, which meens he does most interviews smirking like a loon. If either one of them wanted to, they could really easily win this alleged battle of mind games, after all they have the sucess and therefore the power. Making a sideways remark about Alonso being unhappy with the losers hat would have been a much better reaction than whinging that he's unsporting. the fact is that Alonso is probably not very sporting, but then F1 is no longer really a sport, and Horner / RB are the masters at pushing the boundries of what is acceptable as hard or harder than anyone, including Ferrari.

For Mr Horner "yes Mark lost because we changed strategies but it wasn't on purpose", "we gave marks wing to Seb but it doesn't matter because they're not different really," and Seb "I didn't realise we'd agreed a specific 'hold station' strategy until after I won the race" vettel to call others unsporting is quite simply laughable.

There's a lot in Gump's point below, that Alonso's mind games are getting to Vettel, and he's had to call his "dad" in. In short he's getting played like a banjo.

Yes, Alonso's mind games are really getting to Vettel...... 4 championships in a row shows that he clearly can't hack the pressure....

Competitors encouraging fans to wind up their main rival - who'd have thought it eh?

The pressure started this year re the backlash after he bullyrammed Webber and then tried to weasel his way out of it.

You wait and see. He'll crack now. He can't hack being disliked. But it's his own fault.

Sadly the issue with Horner is that to me he is the Tony Blair of F1. I agree he can manage his team to get very good results but he comes across as the most insincere person in the paddock and I wouldn't ever believe a single word he says.

Vettel unfortunately seems not to fall too far from the tree in the sense that the perception is similar with him.

Regardless of results and abilities, these traits very much turn me off the both of them.

Again, 7 races won in a row and total demolition of all competitors since the Malaysian Grand Prix doesn't really back up that theory does it.

If anything Alonso's mind games are getting to Alonso. He spends too much time and energy cosying up to the team, getting involved in politics and generally blowing hot air in the media. OK Ferrari haven't produced the best car but considering the god-like status he is given by some, he hasn't exactly lived up to expectations in helping them develop a great car over the last few years has he? Perhaps he should focus a bit more on his own performances in qualifying.

After a bout of persistent 'sledging' - mind games as such - our coach said to the team that the only reason the other team were doing it was because they were frightened of us. Piquet only started the mind games against Mansell when it became obvious that he had a fight on his hands.

I listened to the podcast of the interview and it was a throwaway comment in an hour long talk. The bbc are blowing it out of proportion.
The interview is fairly dull mind.
