Surely F1 couldn't possibly go to Russia this year now and the Russian Grand Prix should be boycotted by all the teams.

Bernie wouldn't care so long as the circuit is secure. I'm pretty certain Bernie would do a north korea gp if they waved a lot of cash at him.

Bernie's next public statement will be to endorse Putin's stance on the Ukraine situation.

If there is unrest he'll just cancel the individual event, like he did with Bahrain.

Long time to go yet, current events could be sorted by then.

Mixing sports and politics is a very difficult thing. Until the UN Security Council make their usual weak decision and the Russian Government decide that a warm sea mediterranean access port is vital nothing will change. Currently nobody has been shot and it seems likely that at some point the Ukraine will split, peacefully or not. The FIA and CVC wont want to get involved until a month or two before the race and if the sponsors want to go the race will happen. The Ukraine is a mess as a country and Russian wishes to protect its 'rusting' fleet. If you go to the ports there, the ships are in a dreadful state and the harbour isnt much better. The Russian don't want to be sen as weak especially by the US and more to the point China who are eyeing the far east of Russia.

I think the race will happen, this issue will pass and once the Ukraine has a proper government of sorts, with Russian pressure one way or another the international politics will pass. The US doesnt want to get involved, well Obama doesnt even know where Russia is let alone Kiev. The UN will talk, the FIA, FOM, CVC etc will wait and then the race will happen.

In The Ukraine, by other Ukrainians so you can't really use that as a reason to boycott an event taking place in Russia.

It is. But people in the UK who sometimes talk about people in the USA, forget that the the isn't always applied to a countries name.

Or "The Gambia" or "The Ivory Coast".

It is not totally out of the ordinary to have the prefix "The" before a country's name.

When the country uses a descriptor as a name.

Not in the case of The Gambia.
