Given the forces involved we could be talking muscular or skeletal issues in the chest.
Whatever it is they don't want to tell anyone.
My own thoughts lay with muscular issues and associated swelling, given the forces involved holding the driver in position at 5-6g across the chest I don't think they would have considered allowing him to drive until after China if it was skeletal.

Really?I only count he's had 2 in a 15 year F1 career - Brazil 2003 and Australia 2016.
Button binned it in Monaco 2003 massively, missing the race.
Vettel, Rosberg and Hamilton have yet to have a proper crash I'll grant you but maybe that just means they're not trying hard enough

He told everyone in the drivers press conference. He has fractured ribs on his left side. Whatever it is they don't want to tell anyone.
