Looks like Vandoorne might get a run out, could be interesting.

Tinfoil hat firmly on - but is there some underlying problem with Alonso's health?

Seemingly conflicting medical reports during testing when he had his off, now removed from this race?

Obviously the logical answer is he's had two crashed - duh. But something doesn't quite square.

Seems pretty clear to me. Cracked ribs, risk of further damage or damage to lung if he races. Why the conspiracy theory?

Squeaky bum time for Jenson, if stoffel betters him it could be his last season...

Given the forces involved we could be talking muscular or skeletal issues in the chest.
Whatever it is they don't want to tell anyone.

My own thoughts lay with muscular issues and associated swelling, given the forces involved holding the driver in position at 5-6g across the chest I don't think they would have considered allowing him to drive until after China if it was skeletal.

Alonso seems to have had more big, scary accidents than Button, Vettel, Rosberg and Hamilton put together.
Really?

I only count he's had 2 in a 15 year F1 career - Brazil 2003 and Australia 2016.

Button binned it in Monaco 2003 massively, missing the race.
Vettel, Rosberg and Hamilton have yet to have a proper crash I'll grant you but maybe that just means they're not trying hard enough hehe and they've only had a 11 and 10 year career respectively.

Bradgate said:
He must be wondering how many more he can expect to walk away from. Honda are paying him a LOT of money but with no wins, never mind championships, on the horizon retirement has to be on his mind.
I doubt the crashes will affect his retirement thoughts. If anything, lack of championship on the horizon but I think he'll stick out his 3 year deal and then see from there.

He told everyone in the drivers press conference. He has fractured ribs on his left side.

He's had cars land near his head a couple of times, Austria last year and Belgium in 2012

Was it my imagination or was he hospitalised last year during pre-season testing in Barca?

I stand corrected, don't see him back in a car before Sochi then but who knows

I never heard that. Actually, I won a kart race with a couple of cracked ribs, but I was unbelievably sore for days afterwards so with hindsight it probably wasn't a good idea!

He was indeed. I believe the incident was never properly explained.

He was, but it was hardly a 'big scary accident'

The car was pretty intact

I'm not too sure he'd care.
He will obviously land a media job when his career ends, and he can spend the rest of the time in his mansion counting his millions.

Not too surprised given the impact he had. He surely can't take the G forces of a race with cracked ribs.

Looks can be deceiving, staying in a hospital for a few days isn't.
