A one liner at the end of the main news behind women's cricket

Why is it petty? Not much to report really is there 1 & 2 qualified as the last event, and repeat.

The cricket this was that they were playing, not the result, all they said about F1 was that LH was on pole, not a syllable more

What are you criticising? The fact that they gave out sports news in the sports section of the news of that they didn't hype it? I would assume they feel there's no reason to push another company's products.

Just wait until SKY get the UK rights. I can't see any terrestrial channel paying for a clip of Lewis, or Nico passing the start finish line. The only thing you are ever likely to get is accidents like Fernandos.

Car Crash TV grabs attention.

The 24 hour news had a longer piece, so it was probably just a time thing.

The cricket team have been doing quite well so it's reasonable for that to be ahead.

No mention at all of the race in the sports section of Breakfast news programme.

But mentioned in the Radio 4 sports review of the weekend.

They probably won't say an awful lot about F1 until something remarkable happens.

It's still a major world sport even if they don't cover it on TV any more so it should get some coverage and I'm not talking about a radio news programme.

IIRC The flipping 2012 Olympics (you remember, the one on our doorstep) hardly happened at all in Sky land. So I wouldn't get all wound up about a very brief sports headlines on the Beeb.

I think the point the OP was making is now that the BBC no longer cover F1 they don't feel the need to report it's existence anymore or so it would seem. No doubt a big crash will have them saying how safe the cars are now. Their coverage of rugby union is fairly scant compared to their coverage of league unless 6N is on which they do partially cover.

Maybe their level of reportage is a reflection of how much F1 is slipping off the radar as a popular sport.

That seems to be Bernie's ambition anyway. So perhaps it's nice that the BBC are assisting him in his ambitions to ensure only a small number of people get to follow what is happening in F1

Even when the BBC had rights to show it, reporting of F1 results was often restricted to a one liner in news bulletins, so no pettiness as far as I can see.

BBC coverage of the F1 has definitely tipped towards the comical of late. They were always 'selective' of the photos to use, but recently the headlines have genuinely made me laugh.

Max being compared to Kevin the Teenager? Who knew anyone at the BBC had a sense of humour?!

(aside from when David Coulthard was employed by them)

Thats apart from the forty-fking-eight channels of coverage they distributed on their platform? How many were you hoping for?

F1's always been a filthy toff sport many of the comrades at the beeb would happily see vanquished.

Yep - that's why it was the BBC who decided to cover the season in full from 1978 and it was the BBC who grew the popularity of the sport in the UK. Yes, the BBC has always detested F1 and only grudgingly showed it for almost 30 seasons.

The sport would have been MUCH more popular by the mid 1990s if only ITV had decided to invest time and effort into it two decades earlier.
