Lance Stroll is not a quick driver, discuss...

Running around at the back last season, off the pace of his team mate.
Only in F1 because of daddy's money and shareholding at Racing Point.
If he was anyone else he wouldn't be there, his 'talent' would be better suited to another series - WEC perhaps? And on this point, is it a travesty that talent can't break into F1 without money and/or influence?
For instance, there's a lot of talent racing milk floats in Formula E that would be better utilised in F1 to create better racing, isn't there?

He seems to be a driver who needs the car to be perfect, or where possible, the best. Bit like Vettel. But he doesn't seem to have the driving capability to drive around a problem, unlike the experience of Perez or Massa. Problem is, he's not crap enough to be a laughing stock.
Compared to what the calibre of F1 drivers at the tail end when I was growing up (late 80's - mid 90's), Stroll is the Nigel Mansell of pay drivers!

Oh, I don’t know, I find him funny......... Compared to what the calibre of F1 drivers at the tail end when I was growing up (late 80's - mid 90's), Stroll is the Nigel Mansell of pay drivers!
Let’s face it; he’s there, we all know why, he’s going nowhere in the foreseeable so we might as well get used to it.
As said, there have been worse, so if that’s an assessment he can live with “Lance Stroll - not the worst pay driver ever”, he’s going to keep doing it as long as his old man wants to.

He’s not world champion material but think he could become a solid mid field driver. Tbh if his presence in F1 over the next few years keeps 300-400 people employed then watching him drive is a sacrifice I’m willing to make.....
Force India had other options beyond taking the Stroll money.Just an average driver, there is some talent for sure. Not enough to set the world on fire but possibly more than some non pay drivers over the years.
It's a bit of a red herring to say 'hes only there because of daddy's money'. Sure, his dad wants the best for him - so will pay for him to have the opportunity. But there is a reason he's paying for him to sit in an F1 seat as opposed to a thousand other opportunities he could buy for his son. I expect it's because he believes Lance has a chance to achieve something real, so he paid up.
I can't see him progressing much tbh, but I can just about believe that with hard work, and without the billionaire dad, he could have found his own way to F1 for a single season.
To be fair, several non paid 'academy' drivers only got as far in the early days by having rich parents to put them through karts and have every possible opportunity during their formative years.

He has shown the odd (very rare) flash of skill. But mainly he does not appear skilled enough. Then again I look at Ric getting rinsed (mainly) by Hulkenberg right now and wonder how much of it is getting used to a new car....
Not got too much left over for him either, too me he's sort of anonymous and whilst I don't mind him being on the track, the real travesty was that someone with actual talent had to give up his race seat for him. That being said, Stroll seems anonymous on track so it's not like he is another Pasta Maldonado.I wonder too about Ric + new car, and I'm sure there is something in it, but looking at other threads and topics it seems from the PistonHeads collective of driving gods you get the impression any top driver should easily be able to drive around problem areas and outperform the car. On a serious note though Hulk seems to be very rated by his peers, I'm quite a fan of him though so I might be biased.

There's been worse drivers, a lot worse. I feel he get's a lot of stick because of his Dad's financial status although he doesn't seem to do much to endear the casual supporter to himself.
They can all be a bunch of prissy madams when they want to be but he get's hit with the spoiled little rich kid stick.

He's obviously not a quick F1 driver, the stats alone say that, but I think it's his sense of entitlement that grates, not his performances.
This, for me hits the nail on the head. It is 7nfair that his dad can force him into a team, when the team could do so much better results wise without him.37chevy said:
Such as? They obviously thought this was the best/ safest option. I’ve got several friends who are employed at the team so I’m good with their decision (as are they)
