Ridiculous butt kissing from Sky tv pundits there. Button hit the rain lottery jackpot and they are talking as if he just qualified 3rd on merit and asking him about his chances tomorrow.
Thought it was blatantly obvious they were joking with him.Derek Smith said:
Just got the result of qually.
What happened? Good to see the new teams in the top 10. D'you think this Button bloke in that unknown car has a future?
Can anyone enlighten me?
Rain happened, Q3 started on inters, but it dried quickly, Hulk stopped first for slicks and everyone else followed. Most got 2 laps on slicks and unusually for those conditions it wasn't last to cross the line was fastest - Nico was fastest on the first lap, Lewis the second but Rosberg didn't improve as much on his 2nd lap behind Lewis. Button got a good lap in, hence P5.What happened? Good to see the new teams in the top 10. D'you think this Button bloke in that unknown car has a future?

Hulk under investigation for improving under yellows, team say he lifted.
Aside from that, Perez had a rear suspension failure early on in Q1, no problem got it back to the pits. Kvyat had a bigger failure, which caused him to spin, hit one wall and then spin across the track and come to rest in another. He's fine but the STR mechanics are going to be busy - Sainz had an engine failure in FP3 but they managed to change it, only to have another during qualifying. so, one day, 2 engine changes on one car and a significant rebuild on the other - wouldn't be surprised if they need to start from the spare tub on Kvyat's.
Rosberg also had a suspension failure in FP3, rear lower wishbone gave way and spun him on corner exit, he spun in to the wall, front wing took the brunt of it but they had to replace the front suspension on the right side and unfortunately for him, the gearbox. Merc said loads were higher than expected, but shouldn't have been an issue. They said they strengthened the wishbones on both cars.
Alonso wasn't happy. He told BBC that when they pulled the blankets off the tyres for his Q2 run they found old tyres, it was meant to be a new set. Oops.
Hulk could well upset the order tomorrow if he doesn't get a penalty, its a quick car and may be a bit difficult to pass. The same applies to Pascal Wehrlein in the Manor, starting P12, as we know that thing is "like a rocket" on the straights !

Thanks for taking the trouble to post that. Just what I wanted. I'm away from home atthe moment.Hulk under investigation for improving under yellows, team say he lifted.

I'm just catching up with qualifying.
Seems the stewards aren't going to bother enforcing the track limits. Watched a couple of onboards and I think it was Massa who was off the track on 3 occasions on the one lap. He wasn't alone.
Seems strange that a sport with such a big rule book continues to ignore one of the most simple and basic rules.

Just saw a tweet from an AMuS reporter that no penalty for Hulk but Haryanto, Palmer and Nasr penalised for not slowing under yellows.
Apparently, Pirelli have lowered the minimum rear tyre pressure by 1 PSI for today and the race, after monitoring tyre pressures run by the teams in Friday.

I thought the interview directly followed by the Vettel one was quite interesting. Button said he gets a feeling for the grip levels actually in the braking zones/corners lap to lap, unlike other drivers who take the last lap as a reference point. Vettel then says exactly that, he lost time because he wasn't brave enough based on how wet the track was on the last lap, and realised after the fact that he could have gone a fair bit quicker.Quite an interesting little insight I thought and goes to show why Button excels in those conditions.

Regardless of the circumstances, that result for Button is practically from out of nowhere. Hope tomorrow isn't too painful a slide backwards for him.
I'm a big McLaren fan and when I saw the grid I was stunned. There are chances of a good result tomorrow. The structural failure of so many cars is a big worry. I wonder if any representations will be made. If not, it is likely that the field will be somewhat reduced by the end of the race. If Mclaren can keep their cars going (I know, just a hope) then they have every hop of a good result.
It could be an exciting race tomorrow. I can't see the FI beating Hamilton into the first corner. Kimi might pull something off. Hamilton might do well to allow him room. Rosberg and Vettel have to come through the field. I was a bit disappointed to see how down Vettel was at the interviews though.
Could be fun. I'll be at a grandchild's 4th birthday party, my second in a couple of weeks, and will be trying to keep 19 children quiet despite being all hyped up.

It's called humour. I thought they were excellent interviews.Even so, sticking that dog of a McLaren 5th on the grid is a fantastic result. I won't begrudge him some luck with penalties, given how many he's had due to Honda's issues the last couple of years.
