They plod around every circuit on a Sunday afternoon, several seconds off the pace. Monaco is no different in that respect. At least there's something different to look at there to the usual circuit furniture.

Well yes they are, to some extent. At Monaco, however:

1. They are usually far further off the pace than elsewhere, sometimes at GP2 pace, embarrassingly slower than they could be going.

2. 'Racing' is out of the question. It can only be a plod.

Monaco as a race is one of the worst but it’s still far better than somewhere like Paul Ricard because at Monaco you make one error and you are out. That is still great to watch.

For me the real appeal of Monaco are the camera shots of them Climbing up towards Massenet, the hairpin and the awesome footage into the swimming pool. Maybe it just reminds me of the older days? Racing wise it’s rubbish!

That being said, you just can’t beat seeing an F1 car at a classic track where the car can stretch it’s legs. Silverstone and Spa are awesome places to watch a modern day F1 car. Becketts and Pouhon are my favourites to stand and watch the direction change and commitment. It never gets old.

Quite, there is justification for Monaco. It's easy to point to it's flaws, but that misses the point.

Also a great thing about F1 is the variety of track types. Monaco is ridiculous but it's basically an F1 pilgrimage to head there each year anyway. Silverstone and Spa are 'proper circuits'. Then places like Baku which offer some wild results and Singapore because 'lets have a night race'. Variety is important, none of us are going to like em all!

Except Paul Ricard. No one likes that, Paul Ricard can go.

Monaco peaks too early. They could declare the result on Saturday afternoon and forgo the race altogether and most years it wouldn't be any less entertaining.

I suppose an interesting point for none Monaco fans to consider is... they're stuck with it forever more regardless smile

The principality will always support it, the residents mostly appear to like it - at least those rich enough to have influence, and presumably a view of the track...

The teams can't get together and veto it as most drivers see a win at Monaco as being pretty special. In any case, most teams seem to find endless ways to hype up their Monaco efforts and it's a fantastic hosting opportunity for them/sponsors etc.

In TV terms Monaco is always among the top few to get the highest numbers watching live, above 100m last few years I think.

It's not going anywhere. It's been impractical and a nonsense for years yet it remains. Might as well embrace it!!

I love the fact its potentially going to be a soggy race weekend.

Rain is a great leveller, so it means I'm going to have to wait until the next GP to see the real relative performance of the cars and the story if the season develop.

Honestly can't wait for this season to properly kick off, I think the hiatus has done me good in terms of building anticipation and excitement again.

As it stands, rain seems like a near certainty at some point across the weekend. Looks like it'll be more likely Fir/Sat than it is likely to remain until race day.. But any rain during any session will mix things up in some way.

Apart from anything else, odd weather will do it's part to differentiate the two race weekends at the same track!

It’s looking like very wet on Friday, and a wet Quali..

There’s limited wet tyres taken, so I can’t see much running..

However a mixed up grid on Sunday following some wet Quali action would be a great start to the season.

It would. And more than ever as we're having two races at one circuit, it would be good to mix up the grid so both races start differently smile

Oh yes, perhaps 2 very different races, last year track temps were 50 deg C, this year it will be no more than half for the first race of the forecast is right, mind you 2nd race Quali is forecast for heavy rain as well biglaugh

I’ve got 20/1 on a Lance Stroll podium, and a sneaky feeling Renault just might turn up, after reading they created a sub test team and they’ve had Ocon running race distances round the Austrian circuit on the 2018 car, that probably explains why McLaren has no spare engines and were getting sharp in the Carlin F3 cars!

Sky F1 is 10£ a month on a rolling 31 day contract at the moment, so £20 For the first 8 races.. granted you do need a base pack for that.

Or get F1 tv access (£2 a month), and point a VPN at the states and watch the full race, with all the onboards and team radio as soon as it’s finished.

Thanks for the info but I'm happy just watching the CH4 coverage smile

Or hassle free option, a now TV sky sports month pass for £25 and watch the first 4 races, practice and quali live. That's £6 per race weekend which is fairly decent. Courtesy of the compressed season we're getting smile

Dunno guys.. I've got a lot of time for C4's production and team but it's hard to trump watching a race live! (and almost impossible these days to avoid hearing the results ahead of watching later if you don't).

Anyway, however you watch.. just 6 days to go smile
