Ricciardo was/is just a pawn in the Horny/Marko power play.
Marko wanted de Vries in against Horny’s wishes and Horny used his (Nick’s) lack of performance to bump him out to knock Marko’s reputation.
I don't see why you think Horner needed to anything in that instance, de Vries was shocking and obviously had to go.Marko wanted de Vries in against Horny’s wishes and Horny used his (Nick’s) lack of performance to bump him out to knock Marko’s reputation.
DR was always a pawn... A pawn that kept winning races..?
I'm not disagreeing that de Vries was poor by the way, just that this little escapade was all part of a bigger play. Ricciardo knows which side his bread's buttered-see his stance on the Horny episode in the media and how he was called out on it.
And now Marko is in the press today suggesting Ricciardo needs to improve or he'll lose his seat to Lawson...

Marko wanted De Vries.
De Vries was shocking.
De Vries had to go.
Horner doing nothing, or even actively liking De Vries and agreeing with Marko in the first place wouldn't have changed it obviously being a bad call to give him the seat. At what point did Horner need to do anything to make this supposed 'scheme' play out against Marko?

As I've said before, the whole Red Bull young driver thing isn't actually very good at finding and nurturing talent, is it?
Only 7 WDCs since 2010, its clearly failed They've been in F1 for 20 years, with 2 teams (more or less). So that's 80 potential drivers per season (without the mid season swaps they seem to like).
2 drivers out of a potential of 80. I'd say that's not so good.

I've been to Ricciardo's house in Perth, so that's my F1 claim to fame. Never met him though, my ex was a friend of his parents.
Even when he was in Red Bull I felt he wasn't as great as he was made out to be, and the years have proven me right. I think good for him though - he's still one of the best drivers in the world to be in F1, just doesn't have that insane edge you get from others. Kinda think he's held up by his personality - which is a good thing for him - but if I were him I'd take a step back from wanting to be a world champ and just enjoy the fun of mid field.
His personality is definitely a strong point for sponsors, he has a very food image from their pov.Even when he was in Red Bull I felt he wasn't as great as he was made out to be, and the years have proven me right. The odd thing about DR though, is that during the years he was paired with Max, he really was a very good F1 driver. He was extremely consistent and had a good level of race-craft and aggression. In the end RB backed Max in various ways, a no brainer really, Max had quickly built up an army of fans and he was commercially the best choice of driver to back in a fight for a Title. But if you actually look at their results in those years, reliability factored in, DR's results were equivalent to Max's.
Clearly he's dropped off a cliff since... but there is (or was..) serious talent in him. I can't think of another F1 driver who was so strong and consistent and then prematurely seemed to lose his edge entirely.
Did you steal anything from his house?

I think it is remarkable to find 2 drivers who have maximized the use of the design and achieved 4+3 WDCs in turn. They've been in F1 for 20 years, with 2 teams (more or less). So that's 80 potential drivers per season (without the mid season swaps they seem to like).

Ever since the Azerbaijan clash with Max, contemplating leaving RBR and eventually did, his driving and results tailed off but can explained by Marko knighting Max as RBR's Golden Boy and placing blame all on Ricc for his drivers crashing.vaud said:

McLaren (as an example) have been in F1 since the mid-sixties and have 'only' produced 7 world champions in those nigh-on 60 years. Only three of those have been multiple WDCs.
The Red Bull driver model is very high turnover, but that's arguably necessary to keep finding the Vettels and Verstappens.

Hey guys, stop basjing K-Mag, he is the only driver who you know will put up a fight when over taking and will not just pull aside and let them through. If it was not for K mag the season woudl be even more boring
I agree and would like to see more tough racing for position (although sometimes yes K Mag maybe goes too far in terms of risk).suffolk009 said:

He's been given 2 races, I guess if he performs abysmally in Japan he will be out by then, so 1 race!
In that case he is done, to be honest it was crazy to even bring him back after Liam Lawson took over after he broke his hand.So is this going to be another season where a team pays him not to drive?
The Visa Cash App RB F1 Team, Alpha Tauri, Toro Rosso or whatever they are called this week should be a feeder team for the Red Bull program, not a home for well past their prime drivers.
