Still a bad way to hear about your job...

True. But on the other hand we could all see it coming, why not Jolyon?

And now it seems Renault want rid now but Jolyon's insisting on seeing his contract out to the end of the year.

That's understandable but does he really think they'll let him look good now? Even if that were possible.
Yes, thats exactly what they'll do now, hobble his car or do something to otherwise prevent him from getting (m)any points for the team for the rest of the season. It's a well known tactic, sabotage your own drivers chances. Renault eh, small-minded backstreet outfit.

They could always get Palmer to crash intentionally to bring out the safety car just after Hulk has changed his tyres so that he could win the race smile

Seriously though, all Palmer can do is drive the best he can in each race left and hope Williams feels sorry for him and take a punt on him.

Quite, though not helped by the shambolic strategy monkeys. Williams have been known to be a bit conservative, but Renault threw some points away this weekend. Interesting that JP, without the shadow looming, seemed a bit racier. Who was it at Renault who hated Flav's high pressure management style and then did considerably better? Kovaleinen (sp?)?

And yet they really managed to stuff up the timing of the change from wet to slick tyres yesterday. However, I think that this was more down to bumbling incompetence than malice aforethought

Palmer is just not good enough for F1.

Nothing to do with Renault.

Hopefully Williams have more sense than to sign another paying driver.

It was pointless, even if he drove the race off his life... Too little, too late. Move along buddy.

Who said they would do that? History is littered with teams who have favoured one driver over another to the detriment of the one out of favour. It's happening this year in at least one team, as we're reminded regularly on this very forum.

Instead they'll have meetings where they can all gather round and plot against Palmer laugh

Which is odd, because the DHL Fastest Lap award went to Lewis Hamilton with a 1:45.001 on the ultrasofts, so that picture is wrong saying that Lance Stroll got it.
I'm not sure quite what it's saying as it seems to show Lewis with the fastest time. Stroll having done the most laps maybe?

It's showing which driver did the most laps on each type of tyre and what the fastest laps were on that tyre, I thinksmile

I mis-read it and then deleted my post literally about 1 minute after I posted it. I should have known that someone on here would be too quick for me! hehe

Renault must have put an offer the table too big for Palmer to refuse to buy his contract out.

Also means sainz can get used to his new team and car earlier.

Sound move from Renault.

I’ve never rated Palmer, he’s a whinging over privelidge tt who got a ride in F1 due to his dads name and money. I’m surprised he lasted this long.

To be fair, nearly all F1 driver's come from a privileged background and actually I woukd have thought his dad's name would have actually went against him as his Dad wasn't popular either. I agree though that Jolyon is not good enough and go the way as the other privileged boy Max Chilton, into obscurity or worse Formula E smile

To be fair, Max is a decent enough racing driver. At least he didn’t come into F1 crashing his way through anyone and everything. He seems to prefer open wheel but I’m confident he’ll have a long career in sports cars eventually. Superb result for him at the Indo 500 this year too.

Yes, Max is doing OK in Indycar, though has yet to announce who he'll be driving for next year - possibly a new entry by Carlin

With the Austin GP clashing with the last Super Formula race, where Gasly could clinch the title for Honda ( if he doesn't, Toyota win it ), I wonder if they'd consider popping Palmer into the Toro Rosso for one race - though TR probably have a few other candidates in mind
