Pundits saying toto not happy with valteri. But be honest - who out there could you put in the car that would’ve matched / pushed Hamilton’s time? I think only seb, max, and riciardo.

Awful by Williams and Stroll, could've been a Billy monger incident.
I'm not sure it could happen in F1. The Billy monger incident was down the the design of the F4 cars where the rear crash structure of the car in front was able to penetrate into the monocoque of Billy's car due to the low nose height. A similar thing happened in F3 and the car went over the top due to the nose being higher than the rear crash structure. I suspect the same would be the case in F1.

Not that I can hear the TV as I am in a casino and Ed fking sheeran is being played over the speakers instead.
I was in a similar boat. Watching the qually on my laptop while the OH watched Ed Sheeran being interviewed on the Jonathan Ross show! It appears poor Ed has broken both arms and was trying to persuade Gordon Ramsay to give him a wk!

Anyone else wonder for a while why they were talking about Sainz as they were showing a Renault?
Maybe I need a whoosh parrot here, but I guess maybe it was because Sainz now drives for Renault?

I reckon Hartley did a sound job. Much closer to his tesmmate than other stand ins. Also pleasing to see saintz do well. I rated him early doors, was overshadowed and seemed to overdrive and get sloppy. Will be nice if he manages to settle down and be quick again.

It's the Ferrari way - find a scapegoat and fire them. Rather than sitting down and working out where they are going wrong, find someone to blame and fire.

Then rinse and repeat.

Hamilton close to the Ferrari.
So you comment on here seemingly endlessly but don't watch enough to know Sainz is now in the Renault? It's been all over every Motorsport news website for the last 2 weeks!

F1 cars had to change the rear jacking point after the Billy Whizz crash.

So far he has had a good weekend, his weakness is the lack of experience of the new tyre grip, so was always going to be at a disadvantage in Qualy. If he can keep the car going at a decent pace in the race he will have done a great job. If he matches Kvyat on race pace I think that will be enough for them to give him another go. Fingers crossed for him.

Going back to Teds toys, that wasn't that bad actually. biggrin

Mainstream TV in NZ giving better coverage/news than any time in the last 3-4 decades. The " Brendan effect" - interviews, including one with Watson in a team management role on the evening news, saying complimentary things. Thus far he appears to have made the right impression.

Thought is very disrespectful that the C4 team stood underneath the podium ceremony for a support race, talked throughout the winner's national anthem, complained about the noise and when the get wet with the champagne (on purpose, to say sod off??) shouted back at them.

Also the pit lane seemed very empty. Everyone in the pit garages, nobody wondering about. Just us,??

Unfortunate for Bottas but perhaps with Vettel starting on the front row we have a race on our hands. Vettel has to beat Hamilton and has nothing to lose.

Except that if there’s contact and they’re out it works for Hamilton not Vettel

I really enjoyed seeing the amount of slip angle the drivers were using with those tyres, makes me wish the current cars weren't so heavy and downforce-laden.

The engine noise though? Meh.
Screaming V8s and no turbos. Ah.... when F1 was interesting to go see live. I miss those days.

Didn't get excited about quali at all, odd time to be watching I guess. It's a good track but there needs to be a higher price for going off the circuit. Haven't noticed the lack of noise so much at other circuits but they sounded really tame here.

Are we drawing lots for who MaxVettel takes out this week?
Made me laugh when Webber (I think), said that Vettel is a 4 x champion and doesn't make mistakes, when chatting to Coulthard.

Lewis said the exact same thing in the interview straight after quali. I think in both cases their tongues where firmly against their cheeks smile
