Steiner is saying Romain might be racing again this weekend. Not sure I’d fancy that.
Nothing says his wife hasn't arrived in Bahrain yet more than this comment.I was massively relieved to see Grosjean emerge from that accident

Does anyone else think Lance Stroll should be looked at for possibly instigating the crash that led to Grosjean spearing the barrier? The guy goes off the track, rejoins and moved his car right over into the centre of the track to try and block the other cars from getting past. The cars behind are then bunched up which is when Grosjean swerves across the track to try and gain positions (he was reckless himself here but thats a seperate point). The FIA need a clamp down on rejoining the track in these situations, driver bans need to happen much sooner than the current point system allows.
However there's nobody to blame for the accident except Grosjean. He spontaneously moved to capitalise on everybody tripping each other up in front as any good racing driver would but he darted suddenly and fully towards the right hand limit of the circuit, and there is no way he could have been certain that there wasn't a car there. The Marshal who ran across the track more than likely saved Grosjean for much more serious burns/life. He managed to the powder right in the area that Grosjean needed to get out.
I wonder if the reason Grosjean burn the palms of his hands was from touching the barrier when jumping over. As that would have been red hot.
(looking at reply the barrier is already black from heat and Grosjean holds on for a few seconds then starts shaking his hands.

Wasn't it Martin Brundle who ended up upside-down after the first lap of a Grand Prix? The race was stopped, he got out and ran back to the pits hoping to use the spare car for the restart.
Spa - the big crash?Exige77 said:

Benson on the BBC is saying the burns were to the backs of his hands not the palms. I've no idea but maybe that means it was just general radiated heat and there's a different, less protective material on the glove backs? Muzzer79 said:
Yep, team has confirmed that Pietro Fittipaldi will race this weekend.
Another big name to live up to. Looking through his race career I'm not sure how he's acquired a super license, maybe by squeaking in with the World Series V8 championship win in 2017 and then 5th in the Asian F3 championship 2019/20?He's also not immune to big crashes either - at the Spa 6 hours in 2018 he broke both his legs. https://youtu.be/9hiwQUpxsIQ

Big conflagration obvs but a bit surprised at how ineffective the extinguishers seemed to be.
Agreed. And they want to start using exotic fuels in the next year or two?
Hi,
Apologies if this has been discussed already but how does the air supply into the crash helmet system work? I've never been aware of this but Martin Brundle mentioned it regarding Grosjean's crash.
It was the first time I'd heard of this in respect to being able to breath clean air even in a fire situation.
Cheers,
Dunc.

I've hated the Halo device ever since it was introduced, Yesterday, I changed my mind.
We've both been accused of having rose-tinted glasses for daring to say that we prefer the cars of the 60s to today's monstrosities, but there's nothing I'd like more than for those cars to have had the crash and fire safety features of current F1 cars.g4ry13 said:

How can someone actually survive 53g? I don’t get it.
I assume it was for a fraction of a second, but still!
One of the largest g-loads survived is an estimated 179.8g.I assume it was for a fraction of a second, but still!
Relative to that, 53g isn't much.

Yep, remember what Webber called him back in the day? It was a risky sudden lunge.Davislove said:
shocking incident.....but thoughts on the halo....its protected his head from impact, but surely it gives you less options to climb away from the car in a fire?
When you are in a bad situation, the first thing is to be protected from the worst outcome and then worry about the remaining outcomes which are slightly less worse.Am I right in saying that every single fatality in an F1 car since 1994 has been a head injury?
Before 1994, fatal injuries could be much more variable.
I watched the highlights last night since I heard there had finally been an interesting race. I noticed the drivers all bent the knee before the start of the race. Is this something they all have to do now do at every race? Presumably it's woe betide any driver who does not want to take part in the virtue signalling?
