Didn't get excited about quali at all, odd time to be watching I guess. It's a good track but there needs to be a higher price for going off the circuit. Haven't noticed the lack of noise so much at other circuits but they sounded really tame here.

Are we drawing lots for who MaxVettel takes out this week?
Made me laugh when Webber (I think), said that Vettel is a 4 x champion and doesn't make mistakes, when chatting to Coulthard.
Lewis said the exact same thing in the interview straight after quali. I think in both cases their tongues where firmly against their cheeks smile
Actually I think it was Hamilton said it.

Hamilton close to the Ferrari.
So you comment on here seemingly endlessly but don't watch enough to know Sainz is now in the Renault? It's been all over every Motorsport news website for the last 2 weeks!
I read that as Derek did know but that it still took a few minutes to get used to it.

Lewis said the think about Seb making a silly mistake in the interviews after quali.

“Sebastian is right there so, unless he makes a silly mistake, which is unlikely, it will go to the next races.”

Lots of sites are quoting it https://www.aol.co.uk/sport/2017/10/21/f1-title-wi...

I'm sure he said something like 'because he's a 4 time champion' too, but I can't find the quote for that bit.

I laughed too when he said it hehe

Hamilton is very good at the subtle digs, I far prefer those than the full out rant that Vettel seems to do, I also like when Hamilton is asked a question about someone else's conduct towards him or an accident that they have caused which has involved him, he says something non committal or subtle and smiles in "that way", those sort of reactions are for more cutting .

Surprised no one is giving Vettel much credit for what must have been a heck of a lap. Wasn’t promising much up until Q3.

Maybe I need a whoosh parrot here, but I guess maybe it was because Sainz now drives for Renault?
No parrot. For a moment I got confused.

Thanks for you comment. I'm sorry that for second or two I was thrown.

Indeed. He seems to have upped his game in qually. It can't be all car as Kimi struggles to get near.

Shame his driving in races hasn't followed suit.

Toto seemed a bit miffed about not locking out the front row. I think Bottas has some difficult conversations coming up.

I don't think the Ferrari is really front row at COTA material this weekend so IMO Vettel has surpassed himself. Hamilton was always going to get pole.

It was certainly a very impressive step up from what the Ferraris had managed previously. Shame that the TV coverage didn't really show it.

It poured on Friday morning but cleared up by the afternoon.

You don't think there may be a reason for that?
I think the racing "establishment" are tiring of their little games this season...

The rain stopped a while ago now. There isn’t much else forecast for the rest of the day (at least the forecasts I’ve seen).

It is looking to be the coldest day today of the weekend - may slow it in drying out but the other on track activities should mean it’s fairly dry - just have to work harder to keep the tyres in.

Oh don't worry I can't stand him.
His bad winner, terrible loser antics and his derisive attitude to his teammates (especially Webber) has done that for me. To the extent that I still can't stand Red Bull, Horner and the whole bally crew either hehe
But he can pull out immense performances from time to time. And this was probably one of them.
This bloke can still upset Hamilton's applecart even though PH gave him the title some weeks ago.

I've got to like Horner over recent times. Perhaps it's the fact that he's been an also ran for a while. More likely it is that he's likely to lose Renault just when they are coming on song.

He's managing his two drivers well despite them both being competitive.

I understand why Seb winds people up (different to how Lewis does it - but he can be terribly annoying). However, i’m now a Seb fan, he’s made some mistakes, and drove some great races and laps this year, he’s stroppy and petulant at times... but he is also capable of some wonderful drives and I’m really looking forward to Lewis and him racing closely tonight. Question is will Lewis even race or will he be happy enough to take second if Seb has pace?

Seb’s Q3 lap was very good. And I recall the Ferrari has good long run pace - I’m hoping for fireworks but I have a feeling Lewis won’t engage.

Horner... Nope, I’m going to struggle to see past his constant throwing of Renault under the bus. So smug when winning / so brutal with his partners when things go wrong. I’m hopeful that Renault provide a wonderful PU next year.

An interesting question. The Lewis of old would have had the red mist descend and fight for a win no matter what, but he has matured in recent years and may just take the tactical view now.

Knowing McLaren's luck, Honda will suddenly come good next year and the Renault will be a complete dog.
