Any top level motorsport has ups and downs, if you watch f1 at the moment you can predict who will win, give or take 3 or 4 drivers, you cannot predict a GP win.

No one predicted Bastianni, or Aleix winning races. That for me is what makes it more watchable.

It was yes, but that has taken a long time tog et there and before that impressed less than this, it was a shock, and if you think it is predictable i suggest you perhaps need to watch more racing elsewhere as MotoGP is not really that predictable.

I can only say you see a different sport to me, but then I always watch all 3 races and Moto3 even if the other two are maybe not great all the time is great.

And honestly you do talk nonsense, nobody expected Aleix to be leading the series now lol

As for Huewen Croft is not in the same group, sport or even country, he is the worst commentator in sport at the moment sorry

Brief appearance by Croft on the Notebook quaffing champagne courtesy of Aston Martin and apparently the only person in their hospitality unit with a smile on his face.

Judging from that you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to guess he hasn't got a care in the world about anything Pistonheads has to say!

Of course he doesn't, he is on a mission to keep expanding that waste line for free, whilst being paid a fortune. biggrin
And that's one area where I can't disagree with him, the food in team hospitality has always been phenomenal. Having a meal at Ferrari rivalled any top restaurant.

I wonder if he has a corporate link to AM or just works his way round the teams like that greedy green ghost in Ghostbusters

Doesn't quite gel with his "man of the people", footy-loving, darts commentator image does it?.......oh wait, that's exactly what every chav wants - quaffing free champagne at someone else's expense (ours fundamentally - those of us forking out for Sky pay for his lifestyle).

Why would he care, would you? He is paid a fortune to do a job he is not very capable of doing, why would you not lap up every second?

Surprised they were even serving champagne after that weekend, should have been bread and water rations for everyone!

It’s been a long while since any team quite spectacularly imploded over a whole weekend, as badly as AM did in Australia.

Lawrence Stroll knows what he's doing, he doesn't need all those experienced very talented team members, oh hang on I forgot he's got Martin Whitmarsh now!

Otmar made some very punchy comments on this subject last week as explanation for why he left

I have found my calling! I created an account just for this thread.

Croft - what a buffoon. I'll try not to repeat what has been said a thousand times here already, but my twopence is that he's simply not a very good commentator.

He has zero command over timing, pacing and narration. His dearth of knowledge and class is an insult to the sport.

10 years now, 10!! Just think about that. The annals of F1 history will forever be heard through Crofty. A travesty.

The sad thing is that he is revered in other online spaces. The new, younger audience that Liberty is trying so hard to cultivate absolutely love him. They think he's the best thing since sliced bread. The shouting, the dad-jokes, it works on impressionable young ears. He will likely be lead commentator for another 10 years, sad to say.

I'm an F1 enthusiast and casual sports fan otherwise, and Croft is without a doubt the worst commentator of any global sport. I wish I didn't have to dislike the man so much, but his work is so painfully offensive and egregious. I switched to 5Live last year, full time, but Croft has his feet so far under the table that he's hard to ignore. I sympathise with those who have to put up with him, and those that know no better than to tolerate him.

F1 as a sport, I truly believe, is lesser because of him. In the same way Murray's skill, intellect and enthusiasm helped to elevate F1 on the world stage, Croft's buffoonery brings it down.

For those generally interested in sports commentary, I would recommend Clive Tyldesley's book, "Not For Me, Clive". Some great insights, if far removed from the motorracing world.

Largely agreed, but there are worse commentators, Carlton Kirby is the worst person even to pick up a microphone in any sport, Jonathan green is also very bad. But Croft is up there and in that job totally ruins the viewing experience far too many times for him to remain, and think he gets paid a staggering sum to be so useless?

I agree with a lot being said on the thread, however who are you suggesting as a replacement?

There can’t be many who combine the technical knowledge and the charisma to put it across in the right way - genuine question!

PH and other more knowledgable fans are in the minority watching the sport unfortunately and not who F1 is targeting.

Perhaps they could have Martin Brundle as the main commentator with Ant Davidson or Karun Chandhok alongside? I almost don't care, just as long as they lose Croft and Di Resta, who is so spectacularly bad I wonder if he's doing it for a bet sometimes.

I think that having done a stint at main presenter alongside David Coulthard at the BBC, Martin stated he didn't want to be main presenter any more?

Clearly felt he was being overshadowed by Coulthard.

NOT!
