F1 fans are fickle. This will all blow over before the next race. The fans will still support him on Sunday. It is what it is.
As with Vettel, who wasn't booed despite Baku...
The crowd at Silverstone might be a lot more partisan though (and more pro-Lewis), and there's no way Lewis is going to get booed at Silverstone. I'd be shocked if he was.

I'm sure this little faux pas (if it was), will be forgotten he turns up and wins the race on Sunday (looks very likely, Bottas permitting).
And as if by magic.

People who doubt Hamilton's popularity ought to buy a ticket to Silverstone one year... it's basically the Lewis Hamilton show... the crowd are almost all behind him and the cheers; each and every lap, prove he is the British F1 hero that most hold in the highest regard. Why? Because of his talent... not his PR activity. Simple.

There are more grown men on Pistonheads discussing Hamilton's life than there are kids screaming his name lap in and lap out on race weekend. Says a lot.

Men babies.

Nothing girls blouse from where I'm standing; apart from a load of tarts discussing everything but actual talent. You're not an F1 fan; you're a drama queen hehe

fked if I can fathom why anyone would want to watch old F1 cars being donuted up and down a closed street in London let alone why the F1 drivers and F1 organisers think it promotes F1 in any way? If they donut after winning a race they would be berated.

If I want to watch fast cars being driven like tts in London I'll go hang out outside Harrods thanks.

edit. I think it was the year he beat Vettel in Canada? Forget which that was, though.
2011, I only remember as my TV blew up in a spectacular fashion that morning so it was a mad rush to get another before the start of the race...

You could have saved yourself some typing and just written:

He may as well have just said:
Me, me, me. Me. Me, me - me, me, me. Meee. Me. Me, me, me. F1 my fans, me. Me, me, me, me, me, me. Me.

Seeing an F1 car in person = cool

Hearing a screaming old engine, even a V8 in real life = impossibly cool

To the average punter it's a day out with their mates/families/SWMBO/etc and they get to see something loud, cool looking and fast go down the local street.

Simple people like simple things, albeit obviously an F1 car itself is anything but simple.

I am sure he will receive a brilliant response from the Silverstone crowd. He is a proper UK sporting hero, irrespective of whether he attended a PR gig or not.
I'd be willing to bet that 90% of those who turned up to boo Hamilton's name in Trafalgar Square will not be st Silverstone this weekend. Those of us who attend the British GP know what the strength of feeling is for Hamilton. Must say though that if I were he, I'd have pitched up in London.

I see a lot of 12 year olds hanging around the old F1 cars at Goodwood. Lots of older people like me in that crowd too.

Now they are attacking non fans with ageism.

Lewis is 32 years of age so no doubt their idol is "too old"

Quote from the Independent, via the BBC

The Independent said:
Lewis Hamilton says he does not know whether he is loved at home as much as he loves his country. Ahead of the British Grand Prix, the triple world champion says he hopes people are starting to see his patriotism as he chases another title with Mercedes. (The Independent)
Either good timing from The Independent, or very poor timing from LH..
That speaks of someone who is deeply insecure, so instead of doing this big event in London he goes and surrounds himself with people who "love" him; his mates, rather than attending the London event and potentially not receiving the love and respect that he feels he may deserve, so he goes elsewhere to get it.

Unfortunately, it may have backfired on him.
Yep, and I mean really backfired on him. So much so that it's turned out to be a complete non-event for him.
But I digress, what it actually speaks of is another self-righteous, pontificating, armchair blog bore (quote R Porter) with too much time on their hands, casting aspersions on a fellow human being of which they know nothing about whatsoever, on the basis of the groundless jottings of a Fleet St scribe with a large wooden spoon looking to make mischief in the run up to the British GP....

Even when you know people are right about Lewis deciding NOT to appear you just go on the attack.

I am sure if Lewis was leading the Championship he would have been there today.
Given all the st you (and others) write on this thread you have absolutely no reason to start telling me what I can and can't post..
