... Lotus can't keep a car in one piece for longer than 5 minutes and even then its still awful, Sauber are deep in the smelly stuff too. The main obstruction in my eyes is Kolles - I don't think anyone has much faith in him.
Would be a shame if Sauber were to fold, they're a very likeable team. Lotus was a means to an end for Genii to drum up some business. Nothing better than the glamour of F1 for what is essentially a brokerage of business influences. Would like to see Renault buying it back.

Kolles is an interesting one. The current Caterham structure smells fishy. So either Kolles is trying to get it for peanuts or someone is bankrolling its existence so the show can go on. But Toro Rosso hired from them so there must be some really good people working there. Either way I was never fond of Mike Gascoigne inflating his F1 genius and then removing himself (or was it Fernandes) from the F1 operation altogether.

I think their problems started a long time ago unfortunately.

Fernandes thought he could just throw a little bit of money at the team and get top 10s. By the time he'd figured out its bloody hard work and is far more difficult than he thought he got bored and went off buying football teams.

Gascoyne presumably got bored too and rather fancied buggering about with boats instead of trying to build F1 cars so wandered off to the composites bit (who owns that now I wonder?).

As far as personnel there isn't any reason why people at the lesser teams are any less capable than the bigger teams, its more a case of resources - both time and money as well as experienced hands to set out working practices/programmes etc.

For Kolles it would seem that the only way in to F1 is with the bottom teams, is that because no-one takes him seriously or because he wants to be the top dog and won't work his way up ?

I think he's just one of those "serial entrepreneurs" that can raise some cash but then it's all a bit not very good. A journeyman that just happens to be in racing rather than in some tech company and that's why he'll never be in a top team.

What are the chances of Massa getting a decent result tomorrow? If Alonso finishes in front of him tomorrow I'll be disappointed. If he tangles with another driver it's bound to be Hamilton isn't it?

The guys in front of him are not "nice guys" & more hungry. But luck can always play a part - if he takes Rosberg out scratchchin

Yes, that is very annoying isn't it? Their minds have been set unfortunately. McNish is annoying too with his obsession with one particular driver. One day I hope he Buttons it!

One of the BBC's key commentators stated how clever certain drivers were when bailing out and missing a chicane and taking the escape route. Then when Maldonado did exactly the same, commentator straight into excitable schoolboy shriek mode with "Maldonado's made a mistake".

For this avid F1 enthusiast for whom the cars, the racing and associated technology will always be a prime attraction, there is a huge void in their presentation content without an engineer's input. Someone like Gary Anderson who has actually been there and done that was and should still be a fine asset to the coverage.

Mind you, Christian Horner is always cooperative and does many good interviews and exchanges both pre, during and post race with the BBC. That is good but not the same. Is Horner the same with SKY I wonder. Strangely, he doesn't get much 'anti' here now on PH as was the case until recently. Maybe because Vettel isn't winning which appeared to annoy many OTT fans here ... smile

In view of the over-hyped "racing incident" fall out I expect to see a well behaved procession led by the two form horses up front which will almost certainly now be less interesting than their antics earlier in the season. I do hope I'm wrong and the two Williams cars and maybe the McLarens can give the LH v. NR show a bit of a kick up the front end ... thumbup Could be if those two in the Mercs go too careful up front from the off to avoid any contact let alone any racing incidents... smile.

Bottas looks increasingly useful.

C'mon you Williams ... Get in there! Claire's depending on you!

Calm down, calm down. Maybe those zones are breaking up due to all the braking.

She always has that lovely girl next door English rose aura about her.

Prefer Lee Mck's presentation style though.

Only Trulli & Hamilton have beaten him since 2001. He makes a very persuasive argument that no one else is going to make it any quicker.
Oh, he is quick, we all know that! But the car isn't that bad, kimi is just bored IMHO so not really indicative of the cars pace.

But then alonso "always" has a dog of a car, even when challenging for the WDC!

Adding a bit of humour to the commentary is one thing but wtf does he know about F1?

I'm not convinced he's bored. We know he is sensitive to how the controls feel, look at his issues with Lotus and steering in previous seasons. The impression I get is that he has issues with braking, as the current regs have badly changed brake feel and behaviour. Monza is a track that's going to exaggerate any braking issues.

I really do wish Sky or BBC would hire an engineer. It would be a welcome change to hear someone with some really in depth technical knowledge.

But then the media coverage is utterly saturated with their obsession with the drivers.
I seem to remember the BBC doing just that last season. I was fascinating.

Just a reminder, the touring cars & support races are live on ITV4 today (Sky channel 120) at Rockingham, coverage starts at 10:45am and goes all the way through to 5:45pm. Handy if you wish a day on the couch watching live motorsport!

Interesting speed from the Williams there. And I am pleased for the Brits.

Suspect it will be another good scrap of a race all through the field. I will await to see Fernando and Vettel battling at 200mph...

Of that I think we can be reasonably sure that such a thing has never been true.
