I'm inclined to agree with him. It should be something constructive - school / universities / unicef, etc - not cleaning streets. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/verstappen-publ...

I really hope that Max Verstappen reads this thread: you are so talented and you know so much. After reading this thread he will perform so much better next season.
Some of us have been watching F1 since before his father was born.Or crash the party tomorrow?
Perhaps give Dan a couple of tips too.......

His whole rhetoric is teenage, which is regrettable as he's 21 now.
Why? What he says is spot on, shows perfect maturity. No one on here or similar forums is at all qualified to assess or criticise him and he clearly is maturing and improving. What’s wrong with him saying that?

Technology is amazing when you can race with real F1 drivers online. What is Verstappen like.
It's only a game but you do wonder what would happen in a Championship battle.

He really cracks me up.
21 years of age now and still behaving like an entitled teenager.
Yes, I know, it's hardly surprising given his upbringing and role model.
But to hear a driver, consistently unable to either pass, or be passed without making contact, criticise other drivers of nothing more than ensuring they're able to start a timed lap before time runs out is laughable.
In F1, that selfish hypocrisy is a typical sign of a champion. Much rather someone with some gumption than yet another robot produced full of media training and corporate line-towing. All the greats get their elbows out once in a while, both inside and outside of the car. 21 years of age now and still behaving like an entitled teenager.

He’s definately matured, definately a more rounded driver but let’s see if that disappears when he’s in a proper championship fight
I think his new found pragmatism might disappear for a bit. F1 needs some different personalities and MV makes a great sullen villain. He's got it easy at the moment as there is not an expectation to win, his teammate is not challenging him and Ferrari keep inviting him to be third!

Big fan of Lewis, but you're wrong about favouritism - Bottas has moved over on a number of occasions for LH.
Hamilton, Verstappen and Leclerc made the race today. Kudos to all three.
MASSIVE difference. Hamilton, Verstappen and Leclerc made the race today. Kudos to all three.
Bottas moves over in Russia, America and somewhere else (can’t remember) all when Bottas was out of the championship hunt. There’s no clear number 1/2 in the team and neither receives new parts before the other.
Schumacher had new parts first, had number 1 status in his contract and had a whipping boy from the start of the championship.
There’s team orders and TEAM ORDERS

His best win yet
reminded me a little of Brazil 2016......except in the dry
Different class to everyone today. Let's hope the Red Bull continues to improve.reminded me a little of Brazil 2016......except in the dry
Or is it just the fact Verstappen is so good? He lapped Gasly.
Drive of the season IMO.
Actually has there been a better drive in the last few years?
Like many of the great drivers, Verstappen not only wants to drive quickly- he wants to influence his competitors. If they believe he's a loose cannon, they're less likely to take a pint to pass him when they're slower. They're also less likely to get in his way on a 50/50 when he's trying to overtake them.
If he gets his reputation nailed now, before championships are at stake, he can ride that wave without taking the same risks when they are.
How many drivers messed around with Senna? Everyone saw that Senna would sometimes rather crash than concede.

Mansell, Prost, Irvine...?
I seem to remember Irvine getting punched and Prost losing a WDC in the gravel at Suzuka...?Meanwhil Senna had a reputation as a do or die racer and won 3 x WDC, winning races and often out-performing his car.
Verstappen knows what he's doing and is good at it.

I agree. From the radio transmissions they may have pushed the current PU quite hard (all the way to 11...) gets them a win, maybe prevents Max leaving with performance clauses, etc
I fear this. Sadly. Max needed to win and be at least 3rd in the Championship after this weekend to not be able to leave before the end of next year without penalty.
In hindsight, no big deal; he should have a very competitive car next year and ‘21 is anybody’s guess.

Only two Aliens in F1 at the moment, HAM & VER. What we need is Red Bull to pull their fingers out in the first quarter to give Max a chance in the championship
Totally agree. Hamilton and Verstappen are a level above. I would have put Alonso in that same boat if he was still in F1.This season is far from over but with the power circuits around the corner, I can't see the Red Bull being fast enough.
Europa1 said:
If that's the case, how did Verstappen end up on pole?
The answer is Verstappen.I very much doubt anyone else on the grid would have got a pole in the Red Bull.
You could see how easily Hamilton could close on Verstappen. The Mercedes was so much faster.
This is why they went for the pitstop knowing Red Bull could do nothing and it worked.

Shouldn't you both be in bed by now ?
Does seem difficult for some to deal with the fact that Lewis's performances might not just be only down to his talent of galactic proportions but could just as well be down to having a better car.

How many drivers out there could have put in that performance today? There’s only 2 drivers in the field at that level, Max is the other
I don’t think there any real doubt what the Mercedes team is capable of if they don’t have issues; today was down to Vowles in the main though he needed somebody to get the most from the car.

The suggestion that the Mercedes is a second a lap quicker than the Red Bull is simply wrong.
I guess this is something we'll have to agree to disagree on. Whilst they generally don't try to put figures on it, every single post-race analysis I can find seems to agree the Mercedes was significantly faster than the Redbull in race trim.
I'm certainly not bemoaning anything. I think Mercedes had by far the best car and thoroughly deserved to win. I also think Verstappen and Redbull put together a masterful race in order to end up anywhere near Hamilton.
Edited by kambites on Monday 5th August 10:20
After the first pitstop, Hamilton after running 6 laps longer came out behind Verstappen with just under a 6-second gap.
Within one lap that was halved.
IMO the Mercedes was in a different league in race trim.

How come it's usually only HAM that can do this? Alex Wurz mentions it on BTG podcast this week, you need to heat up the front and rear tyres at completely different times or you cook them wrong, whatever he does he seems to be able to do better than everyone else.
A big difference seems to be the thinner-treaded tyres for 2019. This is why Ferrari and Red Bull wanted the 2018 tyres back. The Mercedes just seems to be able to switch these tyres on compared to previous years when they struggled.
However, Hamilton seems to be able to keep his tyres in a better condition to Bottas so their set up must also be making a difference.
