David Croft has just tweeted:

I understand that Pastor Maldonado has signed for Lotus in the last 24 hours.
I really hope this isn't true, personally i don't think Maldonado deserves a drive with Lotus.

Hulkenberg has done a great job this year and is much more deserving however he obviously doesn't have financial backing, he must find it hugely frustrating.

Not a great signing for Lotus, it is a shame that it is all about the money!
It would seem to indicate that the other funding Lotus where hoping to get has not materialised.

I'd agree on Hulkenberg but MB was fairly confident he has signed for next year and not with Sauber, perhaps back to Force India or Mclaren?

Really difficult to judge his performance this year with the Williams' sitting in the gap between the new teams and the rest. Mostly been better than his team mate I think. This anti-Maldo stuff is based on past misdemeanours and is a bit out-of-date. If anyone else had won the race in the fashion he won last year you'd all be gushing over the second-coming. Clearly has talent - if the Lotus bosses can get the best out of Grosjean maybe they can do the same for PM.

Autosport have an article saying Maldonado doesn't know what to do for 2014 - bit of a strange article if he has signed?

Maldonado doesn't deserve the drive at Lotus by far. He is a whining driver who as far as I'm aware doesn't have much natural talent and gets where he is by staying around for ages until he has done more miles in a given car or series than anyone else. However, if it keeps the lotus team afloat in their financial struggles then I shall grin and bare it.

Would be good to see Massa go to Williams with Ross brawn and bring them back to the front smile

He has speed but his temperament is all wrong for F1. Best indication this year was him forcing his team mate off the track at the last corner in Japan to move from 17th to 16th.

Pedro Diniz in another guise. Simple as that really.

This, i don't think Maldonado will ever be a top rate driver where as Hulkenberg has a real potential to be just that. Lotus have done really well with Grosjean i can't see the same happening with Maldo.

Grosjean has managed to harness his speed and stop crashing up his car, so Lotus need Maldonado in to crunch the cars into walls for them as they had a standing order for front wings all set up to last into next year.

A three year contract too, I'm very happy for Massa and Williams.

Congratulatuions Felipe! clap

The Beeb are also reporting that Maldonado is likely to go to Lotus, presumably taking PDVSA with him. Where does this leave Mr Hulkenburg?

yes ive always liked Massa and it must have been very hard for him at Ferrari always being a number 2.

Hope he gets his mojo back (more than he has so far) and gets some good results. Glad he is sticking around in the sport.

Where does this leave Mr Hulkenburg?
Sadly, until he can bring along the sort of money that Maldonado and Massa can, he'll be struggling.
