to me Perez can count himself unlucky to some degree, but he also made a few high profile errors most notably for me was the hounding of JB the way he did. Mclaren had a tough enough year and perhaps looking forward think to themselves a talented but likely sub serviant Magnusson is the way to go. Clean image, new sponsors perhaps, and less likley to think about making his mark in the paddock the same way Perez appeared to do.
True enough this years car didnt make his job any easier, but fighting your team mate the way he did seems to be a good part of his undoing.
Still. . . . .cheap Checo T shirts at Mclaren.com coming up !!!!!

Whitmarsh ordered him to be more aggressive towards the start of the season. The guy can't win... literally.

I think there is no downside for McLaren to pick KM and take a long term development view.

Checo has done ok - no real reason to be dropped.

He has raced hard, and looks to be a true racer.

He has out qualied JB a few times, and been there or there abouts.

Scape Goat.

Whitmarsh out, Brawn in.

Keep the drivers the same for now OR poach Alonso back.

We saw lots of TV coverage of Perez last year, getting unexpected results in a "uncompetitive" car. He
appeared to get the (what was regarded as a midfield) car higher up the order.

His talents were recognised and he got a drive with a top team for this season. It was obvious early on this season that McLaren had gone backwards even further and that instead of swapping a midfield car for a top car he in fact swapped like for like.

Perez is probably getting the same results as last year, dragging the McLaren into a position higher than its meant to be. But because we expect the McLaren to be there we don't recognise that.

I would agree with that. Perez seems to be settling in now and seems as quick if not quicker than Button, just with less of the whinging.

I hope he stays in F1. Force India could be a good seat for him, not too much expectation and a good midfield car.

Doesn't Perez bring money? therefore he won't be moving from F1 anytime soon.

His results this season just don't cut the mustard with McLaren. Even the argument about him having to adapt isn't a strong one - look at Merc and Hamilton. New car and team yet he has still outscored Nico.

Button will stay as he is great PR for the team and sponsors (being a former WDC has a 'pull') plus his Honda days will no doubt be great for development upto and beyond 2015.

Perez to Lotus maybe. Hulk to stay where he is then move the Ferrari in 2015 and Alonso to McLaren...

Perez scored 35 points in 2012.

To judge him fairly we need to decide if the 2013 McLaren and 2012 Sauber are of a similar level

Poor Perez, given a crap car and expected to perform, Button needs to go first IMO

Even de resta could be a better pick then old JB

The early season bumper cars didn't help him, roughing up JB in Bahrain, then Kimi wanting to punch him in the face after Monaco (he pissed Alonso off too). He's the 2013 version of Grosjean in 2012 or Maldonado in 2011.

Button has performed better in the same car as Perez. Why should he go?

If i were a team manager i would be happy to have JB in the team, but i wouldnt want two of him, he is very good on interviews, appears to be great with the sponsorship side and when all the planets are in line he can drive very well etc etc however the part which eludes him has seemingly always eluded him and that is the natural raw speed that Alonson, Hamilton, vettel etc have had from the start. I suppose he could be called a very safe pair of hands, and with Mclaren where they are at the minute it makes some sense to keep him over Perez in my book.

I'd disagree there, he has been respsonbile for making his own luck... Driving like a mad man and overtaking like a banger racer have not helped his cause IMO.

JB is doing well enough, he is very marketable in the UK (see the Santander ads), he is very popular in Japan (which is great for Honda's renewed involvement) and has plenty of experience in F1 cars through the ages. I'd definitely keep him over Perez, but he is getting old and surely won't be on the grid much longer.

Something that the points above may be overlooking and not being inside the team we may never know but how is Perez in terms of development and feedback.

Results are one thing but they only go so far and in the situation McLaren find themselves they need a driver who can not only extract the best or better than the car can give but also be able to come back to the garage and say what is wrong and suggest a development direction to fix it.

From what I understand is that Button is relatively good at this (comes with experience also) but has Perez got this skill....was the Sauber just a good car out of the box and once the other teams caught up development wise, he was unable to help the team direct their development - hence no decent finishes in 2nd half of 2012?

What rubbish. JB has shown his experience, getting results out of a stty car. Perez has been following, occasionally barging into people (team-mate included) in an effort to prove he's got pace.

Besides, as the saying goes "The harder I work, the luckier I get"
