Stupid idea. I'm going to the Hungarian GP next year but I've lost all interest in F1 at the moment because of the clowns that run things.

Seriously? This is a terrible idea IMO. Every race should be equal in terms of points value. It is completely unfair that the whole championship could be turned upside down by someone getting lucky and scoring 50 points on the last race. It would create way too much of a penalty for having bad luck on the final race.

We could have a tight season long two-way battle between two guys and in a freak accident they could take each other out in the last race........... then up pops a driver in 3rd/4th position who has had nothing but a 'solid' year and nicks the championship by scoring double win points on the last race......... no.

If they wanted to spice up the points situation then why not to points for pole (or top 3 QF) or fastest lap?

First place I saw this was WTF1 on Facebook. I honestly though it was a joke.
I cannot believe it. Surely they will reverse this?

Anyway, I've come up with some far more sensible rules to achieve the same effect:

  • The winner of a race must drive a Marussia in the next race.
  • All F1 technical personnel must be head-hunted from Burger King or Halfords.
  • Make Seb drive in Boxing gloves and scuba flippers.
  • Make Seb race in a Vauxhall Viva without KERS
  • Anyone who is leading by more than 15 seconds must stop for a cup of tea.
  • Just ban Seb completely. Adrian too for that matter. F**k it, just ban all talented people, only allow politickers, prima donnas and tax cheats to be involved in the sport.

So the last race of the season is worth twice as much as every other race in the calendar, yet in all respects is no different than the others?!
bks. And further devaluing a sport I love.
Why don't they just draw lots for a bonus 10 points, or maybe a viewer phone vote to decide the lucky winner of a points handout?

Because heaven forbid the best driver/team combination should be allowed to just win.

What a terrible idea, didn't think I would ever see F1 resort to this sort of thing.

Utterly ridiculous.

This means a driver could go into the last round with a 49-point lead only to have a mechanical failure and lose the championship.

The FIA really are determined to ruin this sport completely.

This is proper comedy. I have no doubt the diehards will be along shortly to tell us it's what F1 has always been and to give it all a chance.

Lost the plot. It pains me to see 'my sport' go this route frown

But don't you see? That is EXACTLY the kind of thing they want. It is not an 'unintended consequence', rather its the whole point!

Very sad. frown

Just lost for words really, unbelievable!

So next year the race that Vettel has won 3/5 times is now worth double? Yea that helps!

One step closer to garden sprinklers positioned on key corners, with Bernie taking bids from the teams on when to activate them...

There are no words. If only the world endurance championship races were as frequent as F1, then it world be a straight case of forgetting F1 and watching that instead.

Why don't they just make the top 3 drivers run a weight ballast? Surely this would make the championship closer fought.

You can imagine the scene at the last (very boring) race, you will get lots of drivers using the MSC method of overtaking. The guy in the championship lead on that day will have a huge target on the back of his car.....

Jesus wept... No wonder VAG put their motorsport millions everywhere but F1. As others have said, after a dire 2013 I thought 2014 would be a breath of fresh air, changing the order. I was looking forwards to seeing how Williams would do with their new appointments and lineup, how McLaren would respond to this season, Kimi in Ferrari etc but fk it WEC is so much more entertaining... Since I first watched LeMans in 2011 I was hooked, that'll be my motorsport entertainment next year, Mark and Porsche made the right call.
