Congratulations - you and the rest of the sofa watchers have destroyed the sport for many of us . Grands Prix used to be held on great circuits in countries with a massive motorsport heritage . Not any more . Enjoy Bahrain won't you ?You know the place , it's where they lock up medical staff because they treated protesters.Where next - Crimea ?
Not sure you can blame tv viewers, seems to be solely down to Bernie and his desire for cash.
And the cash comes from ...TV rights (amongst other things).
But who can seriously afford to go to all the races and watch them? Even the stereotypical PH director has to go to work some time.

Sochi's pretty close to Crimea.

This sounds awful but Bernie needs to die asap for the good of the sport.
Nice.

You might not like the bloke but he's done far more good than bad to the sport.
When you say 'the sport' presumably you just mean F1 rather than motorsport in general, I think the Bernie control of F1 on TV has been to the detriment of other forms of four wheeled motorsport.

Absolutely - the trouble is that 90% of people on here and 99.9 % elsewhere think that motor sport IS Effone. And I suspect that the percentage who actually attend live events- whether racing , drag racing , rallies or hillclimbs etc is tinier still. Thanks to Bernie's bloody deals we have a nation of F1 'experts ' who have never been near a race track in their lives - possibly a bit too noisy for them . At least it was with the V10s and V8s in recent history.

I don't want to put words in your mouth, but you seem to be suggesting that he's changed F1 from one relished by motor sport enthusiasts to nothing more than a TV programme. Surely that's good. It's what everyone, or at least the viewing public, wants.

If people go to motorsport events then they might get wet. There might be delays when nothing is happening, it might be cold, or too hot, there might be others there: all this is bad of course.

So much better to watch the sport on TV at circuits that have been designed for ease of placement of cameras. That's the important thing. Those who complain that modern circuits have no real passing places can be contradicted by batteries and moveable wings.

That said, with or without Ecclestone the sport would have had to make concessions to the insatiable demand from TV for bite-sized chunks. No delayed starts, that sort of thing, which would irritate viewers.

I have been to a few F1 races and I have to say I prefer it on TV.

The hassle, queues, parking, expense etc are not worth the bit of extra excitement of seeing it live.

As ever Joe Sayward puts this in perspective - http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2014/03/05/choosing...

How low can F1 go? Probably a bit lower yet, Azerbaijan ranks only 127th of 177 most corrupt countries in the world, but in the bottom 50 there are probably quite a few who could not come up with the necessary 30 pieces of silver for BE / CVC.

Words almost fail me . If you can't be moved by the sight and sound of an F1 car compared to a 2D image with crap sound , watching what the director condescends to show you then please don't try to tell me that you are a motor sport enthusiast.

I heard that Ecclestone has agreed terms for a GP with an un-named country which you can only enter through the back of a wardrobe!

We can never forgive Azerbaijan for winning the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest! :-)

Well, I love it (Motorsport) but for me it's not worth all the problems of the big event.

I have been many times.

Other "lower profile" Motorpsports events offer me a similar buzz without all the problems.

There is nothing like being on track yourself though. All the fun, noise and smell without the hastle. (unless you break something or have a little off.

I think I'm with you on this.
I'd rather go to BTCC or a club race any day that F1 at Silverstone.
Going to Monza or Monaco or Texas are experiences but the racing is the same. You see more on TV and you get more information to enjoy it.

The FIA GT final was in Baku last year - bizarre location

K i take that back, what i said was a bit harsh. I don't want the guy to die, and i appreciate what hes done for the sport.

However, there's no denying hes gone bonkers in his recent years.
