Considering all the Merc drivers are doing is generally deciding who gets 25 and who gets 18, I cant see anyone else catching, much less Ricciardo pulling back 70 points somehow.
However the last race double points madness...who knows...but even then he needs to be inside 50 points.
No he needs to be inside 14 points. 2nd place gets 36 points, 3rd place 30 points and so on...However the last race double points madness...who knows...but even then he needs to be inside 50 points.

Just saw this online
Points over the last 6 races
Ricciardo: 102
Rosberg: 98
Bottas: 76
Hamilton: 73
Alonso: 60
Nice stats very surprised that bottas has scored more points than Hamilton. Points over the last 6 races
Ricciardo: 102
Rosberg: 98
Bottas: 76
Hamilton: 73
Alonso: 60
All that Riccardo needs is for Hamilton to take out rosberg and Riccardo grin will be even bigger. Red bull now needs to keep the focus on Riccardo and for vettel to help him do it which im sure he would.

It would be an incredible story if Ricciardo nicked it. If he gets much closer Merc might have to focus on their lead driver, and the internet would then go into complete meltdown.
Normally I would throw scorn at such a lead, but that 50 points at the end does provide many more scenarios.A fascinating few races ahead.
Monza will be interesting. Now Red Bull have found out that their car goes quite quick with no wing and still goes round the corners properly, they are a bit of a threat; Williams will be right up there of course, and presumably McLaren can at least go fast in a straight line.
I don't think Mercedes will piss this up the wall, but they need to make a firm decision on who they're backing for WDC, and do it quickly. Otherwise their drivers are going to carry on being petulant little twits until Ricciardo wins by a nose. And what a nose.

I was also thinking this too. Who though will they choice rosberg because he is 30 points ahead or hamiton because he is a better racer relatively speaking.I don't think Mercedes will piss this up the wall, but they need to make a firm decision on who they're backing for WDC, and do it quickly. They have to choice quickly though leave it any longer and they will lose the drivers title.
If they were to pick a driver, I'd say Rosberg is the most logical choice. Further ahead in a car that can do top 3 on a bad day or win on a good day, even more so if you have a rear gunner of Hamiltons abilities.
That said I can't see either of them taking the number 2 slot willingly.

No,
Even with a month or so before the next race, they're meant to take a mandated 2 week break so there shouldn't be any huge updates for the next race and unfortunately for RB the one thing they can't really update is the thing that's holding them back.
It's not impossible of course, but DR needs Nico AND Lewis to have an howler of a second half of the season.
All it takes is for them to take each other out in one race and he'd be well within the 50 points on offer at Abu Dhabi. Problem there is that Merc seem to have two very distinct lead drivers. Going into the season you would have put Hamilton as #1, but now in the WDC he's a distant #2.For the viewers they should just let them squabble, Ricciardo would be a very popular WDC.

Further ahead in a more reliable car? I guess Sunday showed that Rosberg wouldn't make a rear gunner, is that the point he was trying to make? That said I can't see either of them taking the number 2 slot willingly.

As above, Hamilton is a distant #2 almost entirely down to car issues, I'm not sure Rosberg would have recovered to a podium place from a pit lane start. For the viewers they should just let them squabble, Ricciardo would be a very popular WDC.

I think looking at how long he can spend stuck behind drivers compared to Lewis who just gets them overtaken, the answer is clear enough.ash73 said:
Racing is not just about overtaking, unless you are 12.
The issue was relating to could Nico start from the pit lane or back of the grid and get on the podium. I would suggest not, even in a far more powerful car. Even some of Lewis' overtakes were on a knife edge. That said, to me being able to race means being able to overtake as well, because you won't always have blue flags waving for you..

That must really worry the st out of its two multi millionaire drivers
I suspect (and hope) the driver part is more important to them than the multi millionaire element and being that is what will worry them, particularly with the limited number of top drives available.rubystone said:
... question is...would he put his chips on Lewis or Nico?
That is the interesting question. One of them has had a reprimand already though so maybe a factor. Having said that, I could see Lewis back at McLaren for 2016 if the Honda engine works well next year.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
