I hadn't realised that the Vanwall streamliner existed until I was making my way back to my car at a Goodwood Festival of Speed one year. As I was walking up through the field behind the paddock, to my surprise, there was this Vanwall sitting there with full bodywork. I'd never known such a car existed.
The other streamliner is a Cooper by the way.
I meant the mid-engine Vanwall - I only knew of the Costin designed one we all know and love The other streamliner is a Cooper by the way.
I didn't know Cooper did one either!
F1 streamliners during the '50s included Mercedes, Vanwall, Cooper, Maserati and Connaught. There was also a Lancia-Ferrari but I believe this did not have completely enclosed wheels.
The rule change banning streamliners came in, I believe, 1960. It must still be in place otherwise all F1s would be streamliners! No-one's going to put up with the drag of exposed wheels unless they really, really have to.
