Temperature, say 4c, whats the best way to heat tyres? High speed corners, what does this track have, straights & low speed corners. Blistering expected on the tyres.. Night race in the desert might be too cold.

DRS, with the slipstream may be to powerful, zones may be shortened/cancelled.

Expect a few cars out of place.

Hopefully it will be visually spectacular and worth waking up early for!

No, Pacific time is 2 hours ahead of EST, therefore 22:00 EST is 00:00 Pacific time.
No, pacific time is 3 hours ahead of EST. wink

This track is the wrong direction for overtaking. The first section would have been brilliant going the other way for a last corner dive.

Also someone asked about low temp race.
Didn't we have a race when it was so cold and greasy they stayed on the inters and lance nearly won. Was it Portugal or Portamau I forget 2020or 2021

I'm glad they've recognised PIAPs hard work by dedicating a track to him.

As for the race - I'll give it a go - considering how many celebrity utter knobheads make it far and wide I'd imagine Vegas to be rammed.

My understanding is that the local airports are full for private jets and if you're not on the list the planes are dropping clients off before repositioning to Phoenix. The drop off price seems to be $7,700. Monaco may even be overshadowed- but not on the sophistication front.

Thanks for the thread as always, PiaP.

Sorry to hear of your accident - wishing you a speedy recovery - but at least the thread is up which is the most important thing wink

State of that track layout. To think that my first view of a live F1 car was as I walked towards Spa, seeing the cars fly up Raidillon.

Thanks as always Mr.Poke, hope you are on the mend!

I'm expecting a combination of cock ups, misunderstandings and calamity, (and not just from the tit in the commentary box) - I expect to see at least one red flag a day!

Perez 1st, Hamilton 2nd, Piastri 3rd... Norris and Verstappen to take eachother and end the bromance in spectacular fashion.

Ferrari fail to score.

Turkey 2020, the track surface was like ice, Stroll was on pole, Lewis won and clinched his 7th title staying out on worn out inters,

Don't forget the local track time for the event is a day early, first practice is Thursday evening, with the race happening on Saturday night local time, not Sunday as usual.

To put the time debate to bed, it's 10:10 in New York and 07:10 in Vegas while I'm typing this.

Channel 4 highlights are on 11:40 Saturday and 12:30 Sunday, so I'm not complaining about the timezone.

Thanks for the thread PiaP, sorry to hear you are laid up after an accident.

Still going with 'Vegas Bingo' being more interesting than the race, however the cold temperatures could throw an interesting result.

Thank you PIAP, I actually use this thread to follow the race, better than the official F1 website.

Hope you’re up and well, for race day.

Seeing as this is all new , I will go ahead and make this only the 4th race watched this year .
The CH4 times posted make this an easy watch ,as long as I'm not having a lie in .

Brazil was a mistake ,only the last 2 laps worth watching .

Ferrari will be going red and white with the team gear, and with a white rear wing.

Leclerc's national colours, that's put the voodoo on him from the start with the luck he has hehe

Its certainly very confusing ... the race starts at 10pm (2200) local time in Las Vegas on Saturday which is 6am (0600) on Sunday in the UK.

Weirdly qualifying is also on Saturday, starting at midnight on Saturday morning in Las Vegas.

Is this the first time a GP has been scheduled for a Saturday?

The timing sort of makes sense. They wanted a night race so the cameras could capture the Vegas lights better, and having it Saturday night means that most of the rest of the world can watch it on Sunday, whereas a Sunday night race would have been on Monday for most.

Thankfully the highlights are on at a sensible time, as I'm not getting up early to watch it live.

Interesting, so not the first by a long chalk, but the first for 38 years ...

As ever, they only talk about Grand Prix races from the start of the Driver's World Championship in 1950. There were plenty of Grand Prix races held before 1950s and many of them were not run on Sundays. In fact, in some of the earliest races, the Grand Prix were held over TWO days - Saturday AND Sunday with aggregate times being taken over two separate races.

The main reason why some countries didn't host a GP on a Sunday is because they are countries which once had a strong Protestant church-going ethic. That was the case in Britain, South Africa and The Netherlands right up to the 1970s. Most major sporting events in those countries tended to be on a Saturday - Sunday being set aside for church going and prayer. It's one of the reason why football league games were traditionally held on Saturday afternoons for many years.

Catholic countries, traditionally, have not been so strict about people enjoying themselves on a Sunday - so major sports events have usually been held on Sundays in those countries. For example, in Ireland, all the major Gaelic Games finals (such as the All Ireland Gaelic Football Final) have always been held on a Sunday.
