I think Perez will announce his retirement at the Mexico GP.
Which one? This year?

Why would he do that?
I don't think it would be 100% his choice..

Perez is 33. He’s not finished. He has worth within the extended Red Bull family not to mention elsewhere on the grid.

Now a father of four isn’t he? Perhaps not a bad time to take steps in having more time for the family.

The reason they haven’t binned Perez is quite straightforward. Thanks to his performances earlier in the season, he’s still second in the drivers’ championship, and RB have never had a 1-2 before.

Now since the summer, he’s underperformed and the other constructors have caught up, but Perez is still second, with a gap of 30 points to Lewis in 3rd. One might argue that, if Lewis had finished on the podium last weekend and cut that gap in half, then Perez would be under serious threat, but there’s no way he’s getting fired when he can still get that elusive 1-2 for the team.
Exactly , if Perez finishes 2nd in the drivers championship why would RB even consider replacing him . The 23/24 spec cars will be basically identical , why bring someone else in to learn the car and why would they want someone to even remotely challenge MV .
No, the fact that he’s still second this year is the reason he’s still in the car this year.

Next year is a totally different question. He’s clearly shown that he can’t score regular podium finishes when other cars are competitive, and other cars are likely to get more competitive over time as the field closes up. When there’s five manufacturers chasing podium finishes and your drivers are 1st and 10th, you’ve got a problem in that second seat. See also Lance Stroll.

It would make sense for him to announce in Mexico, that he’ll be retiring at the end of this season.

Wouldn't it be financially silly of him to retire? Far better to be sacked by RB and paid off.

After all, they're excellent at that.

Wouldn’t they all need to run it by Carlos Sim first?

I thought Checo was, effectively, the highest-paid of the drivers who have their seat paid for by a third party.

More rumours on Checo. Interesting but it's on an internet forum so take with a pinch of salt.

It all sounds a bit

"My mate was in the pub the other night and someone there happened to be from (xyx) and he told us all that (abc) was happening"

It may happen - stranger things have. But what I can't get my head around is who Red Bull put in to his seat.

I'm a Ricciardo fan who thinks he's had a bad rub of the green with McLaren but are they really going to stick him back in alongside Max after just two races of his comeback? scratchchin

That's an amazing show of faith if they do.

Surely Tsunoda hasn't done enough and Lawson is too experienced? (for the main RBR team)

Has the obvious been staring us in the face all along? Could it be an overweight driver and car?
Im sure they only check if you are underweight. Perez should bring his own callibrated scales to every race.

Internet rumour yes, but makes a lot of sense. If Checo is done then I wish him well in his retirement, no point taking these types of risks with 4 young kids at home unless you are right in the hunt for a World Championship. I could see him doing well at Le Mans or entire WEC championship if he wanted) with his tyre management abilities if he still wants to race, but maybe just not F1 anymore. I get that F1 is the pinnacle but the older you get the more you realise there is more to life.

"Elephant in the room" indicates some kind of insider knowledge to me.

Why?

They already have a 3-time WDC winner, and Liam Lawson for the future. Plus FA would be expensive and bring very little benefit.

Other than to the viewers.

For us it would be fantastic.

I think he's burned his bridges there, along with many other places.

Plus, he's 42 now. Surely even Alonso must see that next year is his last.

Slightly O/T but F1 must be a little concerned about the 'active world champion' situation

Once Hamilton retires - feasibly at the end of 2025 - it could be a case that there's only one WDC on the grid.......

But then look at Qatar. Look at all the drivers puking/fainting etc. Fernando was tired and sweating but did not need help out of the car or medical attention, unlike a number of younger drivers. He is fit as a fiddle.
