Rigggghhhht. It’s fairly simple. One driver wrings the neck of the car during the race and stacks it by the entrance to the tunnel, that could be seen as a ‘mistake’. However if the driver is a true ‘great’ that’s exactly what they do. 100 percent, 100 percent of the time. I rate a driver more highly if they wring the neck and bin it, than if they pussy about and win by default.
I think you might be drinking something really speciallaugh

I last raced 25 years ago so can't remember the exact costs. I raced a supposedly stock series where the engine + tyres were supposed to do you for a season and the guys at the pointy end were replacing them weekly. My hazy memory tells me it was similar to standard car prices for servicing and tyres which could easily add up to £10k if you're racing every other week.
Of course if you're happy just to do it for fun then there's plenty of that to be had in the back half of the field for a lot less £££.
Thanks. The cheaper option sounds good enough, it’ll be for fun really.

A picture paints a thousand words.
You're right. The picture is that Hamilton as a driver hasn't done very well statistically over his entire career.
But that's just ridiculous. How can it be over an 'entire career' when his career is not yet complete ('entire...') and the others career's are?
A whoosh parrot for you perhaps. Or at least a few feathers. By "entire career' I meant not just at Monaco. He has already beaten those other greats overall, hence the (not unexpected) stupidity of MM's post wink

It bugs me how people rate Monaco as one of the tracks one must do well on to be considered a ‘great’

Some drivers don’t have luck there, some don’t get the right car at the right time.

Jim Clark never won in Monaco. Does that make him a lesser driver than Olivier Panis or Jarno Trulli, who did??

Indeed! IIRC Senna binned it when 'cruising' to the win, rather than 'wringing the neck of the car' to build up the lead.

Apologies for quoting this again, but it's been making me laugh ever since yesterday, and laughs have been hard to come by lately.

Thanks, MM, genuinely.

I can see no correlation to Hamilton's career whatsoever, maybe I am thick, please can you explain how it does?
He’s had all sorts of underhanded help, since his earliest efforts . Pretty much like the character in this clip. Always had drivers ordered to get out of his way, always been given the best kit ( normally without justification). If things don’t go his way, he moans and whinges until they do. He’s not a bad driver, but by no means a great driver. The latest thing is track limits seemingly not applying to him. It’s just the latest in a long long line of table tipping he’s been the fortunate recipient of. It’s no wonder he’s known as ‘sir moansalot’
Did the voices tell you all of that?

Or you could look at the results of wet races where the margins for error are far smaller and the performance of the car far less significant.

Oh no, wait. Hamilton is an absolute master in the wet too.
I disagree. In a sorted car, yes, in a dag, no. Again, Senna in Monaco in 1984 in the wet in a Toleman. He st Prost up to the point there was more moisture coming from his ( Prost’s ) penis than there was from the sky. Yet another example of the real G.O.A.T. In case you missed it ( by not being alive then )

And, importantly, he did this while being white.

Guess I'm alone in thinking that Monaco has become a total snoozefest and is in no way representative of F1 . Worst track on the calendar and only exists due to the money it brings in to the Principality . Same can be said of Hungary really.

You're definitely not alone. Monaco is nearly always a total snore-fest. It's possible to drive literally several seconds off the pace and not be in any danger of being overtaken.

Well maybe. He was comfortable at the time, but in the previous laps he was getting to that point by skinning every one else. That’s just incredible at Monaco.

It's not at all incredible if you crash and therefore fail to finish.

I was and am a huge fan of Senna, and his Monaco quali lap in '88 was outstanding but race day was one of his lowest points.

Oh really? That shows what you know then ( not a lot ).

Mansell vs Senna 1992.

Two of my absolute nominees for G.O.A.T. ( for very different reasons admittedly).
Again in case you missed it ( by virtue of not being alive then )

Ironically, it’s only a snore fest now, by virtue of Sir moansalot and his ilk.

1992 sums Monaco up very well and totally supports my point. Mansell was several seconds quicker than Senna, in a far superior car and with fresh tyres. He put on a show, but there was no way he was ever going to be able to pass.

I'm probably older than you, by the way, not sure why you seem to want to have an age competition? Cleary all of your claimed years of watching F1 has not resulted in much of an understanding of it.

Senna was an outright cheat,he was a good driver when things were going his way but he soon turned to cheating when they weren't.

Hamilton has always won without resorting to Senna and Schumacher tactics.

MM, you’re either doing this because you enjoy winding us all up or, more like, judging by other posts you’ve made on the cycling and coronavirus threads, I honestly think you have some mental issues.
