Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but if you go to the Red Bull Ring on Google Maps, someone/some people have added POIs around the track.

I know but my point is they need to go to build some heat and start to dry the track. SC is too slow to allow either to happen.
That’s what the new AMG GT Black Series is for - see PH front page for details. With F2 today we have a race that is probably safe to run.. but probably not safe to start - because the track can't become dry enough to be safe until the racing begins.. there must be more they can do with the safety car design to solve that.
Anyway... Here they go again, another SC race start attempt!

It's good to see the black series return. I think the SC at this point, since safety is all important, needs to be a custom build though. A high ground force car to speed it up in the bends! Maybe a fan car to dry the track too. Once the racing line is semi dry, the GP cars can run and will keep it dry.

I wonder if we might see the new AMG Project One as the SC at some point? It’s a hellishly difficult compromise, they need something that’s reliable and runs on normal road tyres, not trackday slick specials, can accommodate all the equipment and is ready to go quickly in any conditions. If not the AMG (for which Mercedes pay a large sponsorship), then it would have to be something like a Lambo SVJ or McLaren Senna - although I did wonder if they could find all-weather tyres for a Porsche Cup car.
Here goes!

Senna. Schumacher. Hamilton.
All the greats are untouchable in the wet.
Absolutely, rain is a great leveller of car performance that makes driver performance shine through. All the greats are untouchable in the wet.
If you’d known that today would be wet, you’d have said without hesitation that Hamilton and Verstappen would be on the front row, in that order, almost irrespective of the cars they were driving.
That pole lap from Lewis was pure Senna though, totally otherworldly.

What a super lap!
Missed the session unfortunately. Ferrari problems not just power related then?
The core problem is power. They've tried clever aero to mitigate that via cornering performance, and so far those attempts haven't worked.Missed the session unfortunately. Ferrari problems not just power related then?
Probably because the base car was designed to be slippery and low drag, low downforce. Tis a bit of a mess.

Watching Verstappen's lap I think he took more risks with his driving but Hamilton was much neater. Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
