I think it was Nelson Piquet who said driving at Monaco was like riding a bike round your living room.
And David Coulthard, and various others. They’re right though. The director showed one super slomo of Gasley actually reforming his tyre on the barrier, and an earlier one where the front wing of ricciardo car tucked through the corrugations of the Armco
The likes of Gasly, Vettel, Perez, Sainz, Norris and Max didnt achieve their results cruising in a traffic jam as some pundits would have you believe

Throughout a relatively boring race yesterday, I was never anything less than hugely impressed with all of the drivers and teams who were running so fast on such a demanding track

I agree that it's impressive, but something realy needs to be done to make it more of a race. Whatever his detractors say, Hamilton is a great overtaker, and an aggressive racer when he needs to be, and he couldn't even close down Gasly yesterday. The director showed one super slomo of Gasley actually reforming his tyre on the barrier, and an earlier one where the front wing of ricciardo car tucked through the corrugations of the Armco

This leaves the whole race decided pretty much by the positions at the end of lap 1, other than retirements or some botched pit stops.

Oh really? That shows what you know then ( not a lot ).
Mansell vs Senna 1992.
Two of my absolute nominees for G.O.A.T. ( for very different reasons admittedly).
Again in case you missed it ( by virtue of not being alive then )

Ironically, it’s only a snore fest now, by virtue of Sir moansalot and his ilk.
Senna was an outright cheat,he was a good driver when things were going his way but he soon turned to cheating when they weren't.Mansell vs Senna 1992.

Hamilton has always won without resorting to Senna and Schumacher tactics.
Senna an outright cheat???
Apart from Japan, when he didn’t cheat but took Prost out (as he said he would) when did Senna actually cheat?
And how would you describe the king of the cheaters aka M. Schumacher?
A genius????
Or squeezing Prost to the wall in '88?
Let's not even talk about Suzuka, you are right, it wasn't a cheat, it was just the one of the worst offences in motorsports ever, a premeditated act to take out someone... Not in red mist, but a carefully executed plan. Despicable frankly, he should have been booted after that.
Pretty much everything Schumacher did, Senna taught before him. So please

Nicely put. Pretty much everything Schumacher did, Senna taught before him. So please
Schumaker's antics in Australia when taking out Damon Hill had a real Senna element.
I was gutted watching what turned out to be Senna's last race, and to hear about MS's skiing accident - but sometimes what goes around comes around.
LH seems to have become more successful than either of them without taking rivals out!

Absolutely, around 1500 laps virtually every one inch perfect at an average speed of nearly 100mph and no one made a significant mistake not even Mazspin. From Hamilton down these guys are really good. It shows incredible skill but is extremely dull racing. The director showed one super slomo of Gasley actually reforming his tyre on the barrier, and an earlier one where the front wing of ricciardo car tucked through the corrugations of the Armco

In the current format Monaco is a waste of time. The drivers and cars are now too good for it. Maybe some super skinny tyres just for this race if they want to keep it.

Monaco has always been like that , and is like that in the support races as well . But it has other benefits , party time , Corporate reward , and yes the driver skill needed to drive F1 cars in this environ as well as the noise in the town .... still the only race I would go to . It is not the best TV event but live it is epic .

I think I was at the race in 2016, 17, 18 (maybe 19 as well) and every single time I left the track after 20-30minutes max to go and watch it on TV. Live or TV, it is tough to enjoy. I am their for work reason before someone think I enjoy inflicting myself the painful experience of Monaco. lolEdited by M5-911 on Tuesday 25th May 16:25

I go to the classic. Flights, apartment, helicopters, meals, grandstand seats, partying, it all comes in at about £700 per head, and you can move around in between events. There are auctions and other things going on.Given my unwillingness to spend six figures on the weekend I’m not really so interested in doing the F1 weekend itself.

This year's Monaco classic underlined the fact that you can't pass there, even if you have a huge pace advantage, other than running the car in front off of the road.
Pretty clear that Alesi missed a gear, even if Marco was maybe too close. And even then, I was there, and it was epic to watch beforehand, because the cars can follow each other so closely, and a mistake was always possible (and happened). Seeing Alesi at full tilt put shivers up your spine, and Marco clearly had the eye of the tiger pre-race!
Removing thousands of manual gearshifts has had a significant effect on the challenge and skill involved

What about Mansell being black-flagged but ignoring and taking Senna out? Arguably costing Senna the Championship.
Hill hit Schumacher more times than Schumacher hit Hill FFS.
And for the record, it was Hill going for an overtake that was never going to work in Australia. A bit like his career when it came to trying to overtake Schumacher.

There's barely a driver on the planet who wouldn't have gone for that overtake.Thankfully, there are relatively few that would have cynically and deliberately sideswiped the other car as Schumacher did. Then again, it was not a surprise, he was always a dirty driver.
I don't think there's any doubt Schuey was in a different league to Hill as a driver, but he was so good there was no need for the repeated lack of sportsmanship.

It was a severe misjudgment on Hill's part. He only had his front wheel in that gap hence why he retired.Thankfully, there are relatively few that would have cynically and deliberately sideswiped the other car as Schumacher did. Then again, it was not a surprise, he was always a dirty driver.

I am sure if it was the other way around it would still be Schumacher fault

Nope, the other way around, it would plainly have been Hill's fault. Schumacher turned in on him deliberately. That's one of many such incidents and why he will never rank alongside the greatest of the greats.I am sure if it was the other way around it would still be Schumacher fault
