No news here at the track, everyone sat expectantly. In good news, I went up to buy water at 1:55 as the queues died down with everyone expecting Quali to start.

Honestly dont they check the circuit before the track is given the green light?

Surely they would send an inspector around every inch of the track to find any faults? Or is it they wait for multi million pound cars to find it.

Stupid if you ask me...also its a shame they cant go back to the sky team instead of showing this with crofts commentary over it.

Official delay is half an hour at the moment, so you’ve got at least 15 mins more to wait.

Don't know why they don't just ban them from going out on the drain and if they can't be trusted they get lap time immediately deleted or a penalty in race
Agree, but it's a liability issue now it's been spotted.
'Right lads, if you crash or spin off, just don't do it over the drains'
I very much doubt if you run over the drain once or twice it will get sucked up and cause damage its the constant driving over and at full racing speed and loads that causes the problems.

They have other classes of races here with no problems.
There's absolutely no way F1 will allow them to 'just get on with it'.
Anyway, I'd rather they sort it now, rather than something happening during Qualifying or the race.

I think they should pull names out of the hat for grid position.

I’ve just watched the free practice highlights videos. What was max thinking? And then his petulant outburst?

It was clear stroll was still going quick and Max just piled into him? Bizarre to then have a problem with Stroll.

They appear to either be using some sort of mastik, or spreading some sort of tarmac over them. Doesn't appear to be any welding going on for whatever reason.
It looked like some sort of mastic or no nails type stuff. How good is this stuff?

Can qualifying get delayed indefinetly? Or will they base grid position on fp3?

They look like GRP drain covers rather than metal.

It can be delayed until later today, if it can't it can still happen tomorrow morning or they can use FP3.

I work in the drains industry and am getting very irritated with Sky Sports commentary, the covers will be secured, but they keep going, “OMG ANOTHER ONE HAS COME OUT!!!” They are supposed to be able to be lifted! How else will they be inspected or cleaned otherwise!? Clearly something has come loose on one of them meaning it’s been moved by a car, but don’t talk nonsense as if they shouldn’t be able to come up at all!

The Mercedes guy they just interviewed suggested they can delay it until there's no daylight left.

It’ll be delayed until sunset (18:45 local time) then postponed until Sunday morning.

Edit: looks like the repairs are finished and we start qualifying on the half hour.

If worst case scenario the track still isnt ready tomorrow morning i assume the race will get delayed until quali is completed?

Dont think i can remember a race where there is no quali hence my question

It's nice to see a track with elevation changes unlike the flat Tilke ones.
