Can't qualify in Q3, trundles around in the 2nd half of the grid, crashes from time to time - just an embarassment. Which may be why Ferrari dumped the loser.
Good luck Renault. Although Nico Hulkenburg might have been a better option if they hadn't written that option off before!

Ferrari “dumped him” at the start of the season, before he’d turned a wheel.
He’s on gardening leave, with a job elsewhere secured, I guess he needs to be fighting hard for the team that publicly dropped him, because that’s what people do when their head is down and they’re leaving anyway.

Quite. As an aside, it's amazing how Hulkenberg's stock has risen since he's stopped driving F1 cars. If he keeps on not driving F1 cars this well I think he'll unquestionably be the top driver on the grid (albeit not actually on the grid).
The 6 drivers beneath him probably won't be able to rise above him either!

Vettel is in the doghouse with Ferrari, they are nobbling his car. If he had similar equipment to Le Clerc he would be one place in font or behind him. But he isn't.Can't qualify in Q3, trundles around in the 2nd half of the grid, crashes from time to time - just an embarassment. Which may be why Ferrari dumped the loser.

You only have to look what they did to him in the pits last week

Well how well-informed are you? And that's nothing like a well informed and considered post...
What has SV done to prove his F1 provenance this season - or last come to that?
He's just a massive salary drain for pathetic performance - waste of space springs to mind.

As a bit of a plot twist, how about the Vettel-Racing Point/Aston Martin move being a done deal before the season started, Ferrari got wind of it and pushed him before he could jump and now he is purposely driving badly to ensure RP finish higher than Ferrari thus giving them more cash for next year when he is there?
It’s a bit of stretch, granted but pretty tame compared to some silly season stuff.

his apologists used that excuse already in '13 to explain him being handed his ass by Danny ric. It’s a bit of stretch, granted but pretty tame compared to some silly season stuff.

judging by the comedy pit stop and 'wheel issue' when he was in the points it appears to me that it's Ferrari that are scuppering him ...
Its been noted the problematic wheel was the one he smashed into Kevin with...Seb has ruined his own chances endlessly this season and last. Wasn't it about time simple misfortune had its turn!?

Are there race/accidents stats that relate to SV? He seems to have made so many mistakes but perhaps that's because we focus in him so much
I don't think that's the case. To my recollection, which may be incorrect, Vettel was not particularly mistake prone before Leclerc joined him at Ferrari.
Perhaps Vettel was driving within his and the car's comfort zone as he had most often enjoyed a relatively safe margin to Raikkonen.
Leclerc, coming in as a rookie, sought to destroy Giovanazzi and put himself on the map. In the process of doing so he got all of his spinning out of the way at Alfa Romeo. When he got into the Ferrari and was faster than Vettel, it was Vettel who then had to explore this area beyond the limits of the car's outright grip. His learning process was much more conspicuous than Leclerc's- the difference between the drivers is that Leclerc seemed to have learned to avoid the overdriving errors and spins within the first half of his rookie season, where Vettel, spooked by Leclerc, continues even now.

What possible reason would ferrari have to scupper Vettel?Poor performances look bad on both the team and driver....
He is still their driver, trying to gain points in the championship to beat their rivals and secure prize money, sell cars and save face.
Talk about tinfoil hattery

This always comes up in F1 threads. Teams trying to screw drivers. Drivers trying to screw teams. F1 is a small circle, I have serious doubts that such total unprofessionalism exists on this scale. If Ferrari were really that anti-Vettel they'd just get him out the car and side line him for the rest of the season. What on earth would be the point in anything else?
What's written in the contract? None of us know. Maybe it is written that he can't be excluded from any weekend?
Maybe I was being a bit 'tinfoilly' but Ferrari don't lose that much money doing this compared to the many millions in guaranteed annual payments from F1. Might look bad if their rising star is outperformed by the outgoing bloke who is persona non grata...
Anyway, it was just my thoughts really.

I think the root is that Ferrari can't get him out of the car without paying him a lot of money so the theory goes that they get some kind of revenge by making him look bad.
However, like virtually all conspiracy theories, if you look at simple facts then the truth is far more realistic and boring.
The car doesn't suit him. He likes a planted rear end (oo-er) and it doesn't have one. It's as simple as that.
The issue may be for him that a lot of modern F1 cars don't have planted rear ends so he may not fare better elsewhere. However, I for one think he'll get some mojo back at Aston Martin.
